Two more Bike Forums members have achieved face-to-face contact.

On another blistering hot day in Kansas City, I rode my long-suffering Iguana the 12.14 miles from my apartment to 82nd and Wornall, where Jonathan (aka jramsey)http://pages.prodigy.net/jonrutherford/Jramsey1.jpg was already ensconced in air-conditioned comfort inside Torre's Pizzeria. I recognized his Trek outside the restaurant from posts here, and he recognized me by my goofy attire (Lycra shorts, old T shirt, etc.).

We ordered individual vegetarian pizzas (Torre's makes great pizzas) and Diet Coke. Discussed bike accessories, traffic, his Irish music career, and tattoos...:)

Jonathan received a nice CatEye cycling computer for Father's Day, and recited quite a list of goodies that he would appreciate for his birthday. With us, it's always something. Just another benefit of cycling: we're so easy to shop for....

The hour seemed too short, and I look forward to next time--especially if the heat index dips below 110 deg. for the occasion!

The pizza turned out to be great cycling fuel: I rode back home in comfort (except for the heat), at a faster average than usual. Stopped at the Broadway Cafe for iced tea and to write this on my Palm IIIx. I'm so sophisticated, for a seen-yer citizen.... :D

Outstanding Jon and jramsey! Great that you two got together!!

Since it doesn't appear that any of the membership here will be passing through "outstate" Nebraska (yeah, that's what they call it out here....we are so rural, the folks in Lincoln barely acknowledge us!) I am going to try to visit and ride with one of our members this fall! I will get pictures!!

I learned a long time ago that rural doesn't necessarily mean unsophisticated. There was a drug store in Garden City, Kansas, where I lived from age 13 to 18, that had a better book selection than some big-city stores. Lots of cool people prefer to live in small towns or cities just because it's pleasant--and they're smart....;)

Looking forward to seeing some of your photos!

Man, that's cool. Thanks for going to the trouble of writing about your meeting and posting a pic.

With the exception of meeting Nebill's evil Harley riding twin, and my fantasy-of-the-mind encounter with Pete Clark, Technogirl, and a big nasty green Slurpee, I haven't had the chance to meet any bikeforums.com people.

It sure would be neat, though.

That's because you are a "Seasoned Citizen", aka salt of the earth! ;)

Vegetarian, kind of heavy on black olives, but I like black olives...

The place is located on Wornall Road, possibly the most congested street in Kansas City. It would be a good venue for an Effective Cycling demonstration.

I know, Bill! I looked up your town on the map. The people in "flyover country" must consider YOU flyover country! :)

Regards,
Rainman

Mike, it would be super if you could meet a member or two on one of your business trips to Europe--Rich in Kent, Toolfreak in Holland, MichaelW in London, Ranger or Weasel in Germany...and I'm afraid I may have left some out, sorry, but you get the idea.

You could even post from over there!:)

That is a real possibility. Most of my trips to Europe these days are to Italy, but we haven't had many Italian people on the forums.

I was going to try to hook up with TokyoCory (was that his name) the next time I go to Japan - haven't seen him on the forums recently.

An international Bikeforums.com meeting would be neat.

Ranger - if I was in northern Italy, where would be a good place to meet? You are in Karlsruhe which is in southwestern Germany, isn't it?

Strange that they put so many black olives on. Some places, e.g. Subway, alert their employees not to use too many black olives. They are more expensive than the other vegetables used.

Btw, my ride was only 1.1 miles each way, according the aforementioned Father's Day present (Cateye Mity 3).

So, I guess Torre's pizza must be a higher form of cycling fuel, Jon.

:)
