See this thread (http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=248440) for the technical mumbo-jumbo, if you care. Bottom line, there were some problems and they did the best they could.

The plus side of all the lost threads is that "Been using sweeping hand motion..." is now back on the first page of A&S. Definitely one of my all time favorite thread titles :)

But now I'll never be able to prove that Robert Hurst himself weighed in on a thread that I started... :( :)

Well, at least I still have a question on the Mechanic board with a reply from Sheldon Brown. (At least I hope I do. Oh no, I better check that one too! :D)

Nothing like a minor tragedy to bring people together! :D

(un)fortunately we all seem to be in agreement today - united in our wishes for better motorist behavior.

But the truth is it is those pesky BLs that cause motorists to treat cyclists poorly.

There, that should get us back on track.

Here ya go guys, just to expedite the catch up arguments I put together a template you could use. It's simplistic but you get the idea.:D

<build strawman here> and if you really beleive that then it your own fault that <insert incident which causes injury here> ....and I know what you're going to say next so <ad hominem attack, another ad hominem attack for effect>

you <helmet/BL/VC [delet two]> lovers are all a bunch of <insert random insult> and your momma is a <insert description of something large>

Can you create a couple of columns of standard data so we don't have to think through the process of "build strawman here" or "insert random insult?"

If we can just select from the columns and fill in, things can go much much faster.

Perhaps a few standard arguments can be preformed so a reader can just select arguement A and a responder can select response B or C. Then conversations can look more like this:

cyclist 1: "A"
cyclist 2: "B and E"
cyclist 1: Oh "E" rarely happens but then "T"
cyclist 2: yeah I had a "T." But "B"

Look how much bandwidth could be saved... spammers can use it all to send more email spam... wow, I am so glad we saved the 'net.

Yeah I keep looking for something newer/better and the solution seems to be "paint." :D

I am a bit nervous though about breaking something that is no longer made.

Seriously, the stupid modifier is important, I do think we have many good and thoughtful arguements too.

Actually I tend to agree. I even sometimes enjoy the rantings of HH. It's just that he tends to beat a dead horse... and then it becomes no fun at all.

Gee, I haven't faced an HH "validity quiz" in so long... sigh... ;)

I'm still looking for the definitive answer about how many angels can cycle/dance on a bike lane stripe. Maybe it was lost in the crash. Better start that debate all over.

Well the speeding camera thread went away and i dont think its worth starting it up again

After cameras went away, speeding increased 10x (SL is set at 65mph, speeding is condidered 76mph or higher)

http://www.azcentral.com/community/scottsdale/articles/1129sr-photo1129Z8.html

While this is a freeway, its an urban one (bikes prohibited) and this 8mi stretch with cameras had the highest fatality rate per mile of any freeway in the US. It has exits every 1mi feeding into access road that I cycle on every day. Folks come off at 75mph+ into 45mph zone and don't slow.
Article notes that every day at least one car is clocked at 100mph+. Highest recorded is 139mph.
