I am calling this a Stagecoach Century Training Ride – but everyone is welcome, even if you are not doing Stagecoach…but we will ask WHY NOT??

I know you have been practicing your climbing so lets do some miles (for those of us not doing the Burrito Century or even if you did!).

San Gabriel River Trail –Azuza to Seal Beach and back – approx 74miles w/ approx 1500ft elevation

Saturday 12/16 Meet at 8:30 – Roll at 9:00

Encanto Park in Duarte is here (http://maps.yahoo.com/maps_result?ed=xs5aca160Sz8whY9JpTVJJGfFQEpRZ5T7g1tMfSQX8izGEQsqIGang--&name=Encanto+Park&csz=+CA&country=us&cs=10&qty=12&ds=g&gid1=23114135)

Take the I-210 Fwy – Exit Buena Vista St (this is east of the 605 frwy) – take Buena Vista St north to Huntington Dr – turn right onto Huntington Dr

Turn left on Encanto Pkwy – Encanto Park will be on the left about ½ mile up…

This is a no drop ride because I can not drop myself and I am always last.

99% bike trail w/ approx 3 street crossings only

There are a few parks along the way for water and potty breaks. If we are lucky we will have tail winds on the way back. The downside is there may be headwinds on the way down…

There is really nowhere to get food except at the restaurant at the beach. We don’t usually eat there, we rest for a bit then head back up the trail!

I usually take a banana or 2 and some PBJ’s to eat at the turn around at Seal Beach where we can potty and get fresh or salt water for the return ride.

I used to do this ride every week, many years ago. We would have lunch at Seal Beach and return. It's a nice river trail ride. I might be up for this. :)

I'm a maybe at least for 50 miles of this. Since I have CL the next day, I'm not sure I should do the full 74! But it is a nice ride on that trail. :)

Also I have some other non-bf'ers I am trying to get to ride...I dont think they will do the entire ride either...

I wish I could do this ride, when I was a kid I used to start at Santa Fe Dam and head down to the beach this would bring back memories. But I have to work on Saturdays, I will see if I can get someone to switch Saturday for me. I would start with you kids in Duarte, but head down PCH to SART up to Fullerton. Man that sounds like fun. errrrrr I REALLLY try to get this Saturday off.

I would love to ride, especially for beginner like myself. The SGRT is my regular ride with my son, but we never made it to Seal Beach yet. Unfortunately, I just returned home from my open heart surgery this week & won't be riding for a few months:rolleyes:

I might be able to meet everyone in Seal Beach and do the second half of the ride with the group, then head back home solo. I used to do the river trail every weekend but I'm starting to like PCH better.

Ok, put medown as a "for sure" barring something unforseen. Is there anyone who will see Worker4youth before the ride? If so could they pick up a jersey from him and bring it to the ride?

Well....I am picking up some jerseys from Paul to take to our holiday party but I am not 100% certain about doing this river trail ride. If someone at the party or at the Irvine/SD ride the following day will doing the river trail I can hand your jersey to that person. :)

Is the plan to head north from Encanto Park to Azusa, and then to Seal Beach and back to Encanto?

Please clarify. In any event, I'm IN!!

Yay, my first SoCal BF ride!

Let me do a cross check on the party vs the ride.

No...basically from Encanto park to the trail then turn right and head towards the beach...the parking lot in azuza is only a couple of miles north...then seal beach back to Encanto...

George...worst case is you live close enough, so we could meet...or ME is even closer to me... and she may do this ride also...but I hope you can make it!!!

Even better, then. I'll be there. I did a 68 (supposed to be 67) mile ride on this trail commemorate my birthday last year, and haven't ridden it much since. Word is that much of the stretch 'tween Whittier Narrows and Wilderness Park has been repaved. It needed it!

I'm still on the fence about the River Trail ride, but certainly if you give me the jersey, I'll make an effort to give it to Herb. We are so close in proximity, I don't have a problem driving to meet whomever to help facilitate the transaction. Wow, I suddenly feel like a jersey-dealer. :p

I am looking forward to this ride as this will be the most miles in a single day for me. I've also invited 2 friends along for the ride.

Great...

There may be some people who don't want to ride the entire trail...so no one should feel obligated to have go all the way down if they are not up to it!

m.e. (if she decides to ride)as well as another friend I am trying to convince to ride will probably do 40-50 miles total...
