He's Baaaack!
I did it! I did it! I did it!
Just had to come in and share this. I know it is not a major feat for many of you, but I could not handle 40 miles above 14 mph in December.
I had a wonderful (though draining) weekend. I finished the entire 180 miles of the Houston - Austin MS 150!
Saturday was my first ever "English Century" / 100 miles. I averaged 17.9 miles per hour/.
My wife was a real sport playing the support role of meeting me at the mid point and finish lines. I really wanted her there for my big day.
Sunday was the slightly shorter route of 80 miles. There are two routes that can be taken - Eiter the "park" which has the most challenging ride because of the tougher hills, or the "bypass" which is rolling hills. Well, my primary riding buddy and I decided to take the full challenge head on. We took the park. Decided if need be we would walk some of the hills. (Lots of cyclists have to) Well I never had to get off and walk! I made it up every hill even though I had to drop into granny gear Averaged 16.3mph on day two which was good for us considering the hills.
I did have a out of control rider crash into me on Saturday. Banged up my rear wheel / derailer. No major damage. I performed some roadside patches and rode it in to the maintenance. They fixed it up in about 20 minutes and we were on our way. I stayed up and so did he which was great considering we banged wheels so bad - locked his front to my rear. We just clipped out in time.
Day two, around the 60th mile, I got a hot spot and now have a saddle sore- Ouch - my first. Any best treatment?
Just had to come in and brag - Thanks for listening.
Tomorrow =- lazy day other than picking up the dogs and going to dentist. Also want to have my bike shop check over my bikes rear end.
Matt.....Good night - I am out of here.
