I must have missed the original thread.
I'd like to go, but I need to get some road miles in for the burrito ride. Not that it makes a big difference a week before.
I am not sure if this is happening on the 2nd or 3rd..... the link is also broken in the master link, I'll notify Cali and get that fixed.

I still plan on going on Saturday the 2nd!!!
Met time is 8:30, ride time 9am unless you guys want to met earlier I'm up for meeting as early as 7am. Let me know, it's about 1 hour drive for me.
Route 15-18 miles, intermediate skills required. I don't want to ride too much fire roads with all the nice single tracks there.

Do you have an idea on the routes that you want to take?
Going up Cholla was rather disappointing to me last weekend (but Jeff should still experience it).... I seem to remember that hill being a lot more narrow and with tons of rocks... I cruised up the route almost without thinking...
I realize that I didn't do much MTB for the last year, so can anyone confirm or deny what I experienced? Cholla = Easy?
I'd suggest finishing on Meadows, just because it is a great downhill finish back to the road.

I would like to ride everything I can there like in here
http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?from_top=1&route_id=93
I would like to stay off all fire roads if possible even if that means climbing, or short amount of times on the fire roads to lead to new trial heads.

I was thinking of this route: Wood Canyon, Dripping Cave, Coyote Run, Cholla, Rock-it, Coyote Run, Mathis, Top of the World, and Meadows.
Anybody have any suggestions?

This is next to impossible in Aliso... You have to take a fire road all the way into the area and you will be at the bottom of the hills and all the trails, and then there is one fire road at the top of the hill that connects everything up there...
mtblurkr - I should not have said that Cholla is easy (because it is still pretty tough), but hasn't the trail widened and become more even and less rocky?

Yeah, you're right, it's wider and not as rutted up as it used be.

Yah I figured most of the trial head will start from a fire road. Was worth a shot:D Either way it's going to be FUN!!!!

Sorry guys, it looks like I'm not going to make this ride after all. I need to manage shop for my step-daughter. She just informed me that she's going to the SC/UCLA game and asked if I can cover.
She just found out today that she is going to the biggest college football game in the area?
Did she offer to take over for you on December 17th? :D

Thanks....I took the bike out a couple more times out on the trail since that picture was taken and I decided to further shorten the steerer tube and get rid of the spacers under the stem. The new position is comfortable. :)

They start near the bottom of Baldy. I might do the 30th because it's a Saturday, but the 17th is a Sunday and I usually stay close to home on Sundays. Next Saturday is Planet Ultra's Christmas century, I'll be doing that. Maybe we'll ride together soon.

Cali are you talking about the Aliso ride? You are definitely strong enough to do the climbs. Some of the descent maybe too technical but you can always walk. There is always the option of riding out to Cholla, do Cholla and then return and meet the guys back at the parking lot. Doesn't appear any "newbie" riders are going but I'm sure the guys won't mind hanging out with you.

hi pam... ya... the aliso ride was what i was asking about.... i specified chimivee and extort cuz they rode with me out here the day after JT so they saw what i could and would do (yes... i DO walk down hills i'm uncomfortable with! lol!)
my only thing with doing cholla.... i assume (yes i know) that that's a lot shorter and it's always hard for me to justify driving so far for a short/shorter ride.... i haven't even mentioned it to hubby yet.... was just feeling it out.... (and then on the way home from work... yes i got off early :p i got a call and something came up that we have to go "down the hill" as soon as hubby gets home.... so not even sure that he'll want to do it now.... PLUS i double checked and it involves the 91... YUCK! *sigh* so now i'm torn as to do it or not do it..... WHY is everything so FAR AWAY?????? *pout*)

Sorry Cali... I've only ridden this area once. It was a couple of years ago, and we stayed mostly on the fire roads. So, I'm not sure how difficult the single-track is. It's my understanding there is some fairly technical stuff. But, you tackled some nasty stuff on the post Joshua Tree ride, so you're obviously not afraid to give it a shot. Like Pam says, worst case you (we) walk. Tiff is considering the ride too, and she's more toward the beginner end of the MTB spectrum.

is this ride something i can do.... am capable of doing? can keep up with? chimivee? extort? Cali, I'm sure you can do Coyote Run which is a fun single track and is easier than Bovinian Delight. Cholla is a steep but short climb. If you aren't comfortable doing certain section, just walk them. We can modify the route or meet you at places where the trails connect back up. I'm sure you'll have fun if you decide to come.
I may be there. The down hills I don't have much trouble with, it's the climbing. I usually walk up cholla.
And Cali, there are choices on the down hill.
I think that you could do some good riding there, and avoid Rock It if you so desire.
