Hi guys,
I just bought a chain breaker for use on my bikes, to make it easier to clean chains etc (slowly getting all the bits i need/want) and was wondering that when I take off my SORA chain on my road bike, will I need to put a replacement link or anything in? or just push the pin back in? I never take the pin right out.

depends on the type of chain, higher end shimano chains has join pins , once you push the existing pin out you are not suppose to use them again.

well it's a cheap bike that came with SORA.....the chain says Shimano IG Narrow on it. I have pushed out a pin almost all the way and put it back in b4...maybe 500km+ ago?

I have a 8 speed shimano chain HG91, it comes with 2 joining pins, so I don't think it is a good idea to keep pushing the pins out. I had a cheap chain before and I clean it on the bike, I manage 12,000km before changing the cassette and chain.

taking the chain on and off is a bad idea. if it's really dirty i'd recommend something like the Park Chain Gang to clean it.

I had a look, and it is a SHIMANO IG 51 chain. I am cleaning it with sum pretty powerful stuff my uncle gave me that he uses on disc brakes in cars, and im using paper towels and just rubbing it over the chain back and forwards......lotsa black gunk! where does it come from? it's too dark to bee dirt.
