Southern California - Cuda's coming to town - FOOD & DRINKS DEC 22nd - Now with poll

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Cuda and wife Happyfeet are coming to down over Christmas this year. I'd love to get together with the SoCal crew while we're out there. We will be arriving Thrusday the 21st, leaving Wed the 27th. In the previous thread I had suggested a Friday evening meet & greet get together for food & drinks. And a possible Saturday morning ride.
I'll be staying in Woodland Hills with my wife's parents. Happyfeet will have access to her mother's car, but I won't have my own set of wheels. So the Friday get together can be anywhere within reasonable driving distance of the area. Saturday's ride I'll need someone to pick me up and drop off.
:)
FOOD FOOD BEER!
UPDATE:
Mexican food at Cafe El Cholo in La Habra, 7:30pm, Friday Dec 22nd.

Ok, so I screwed up when making the poll and didn't make it public to see who votes yes. So please post in thread if you hope to make it and I'll start a list here:

I would join you guys but I'll be in TN right during the time you're here. Have fun riding with other BFers! :)

If you don't have a car, you could ride to the SFVBC ridestart and ride with us. It's at CSUN. Are you bringing a bike?
I definitely want to meet you and Happy Feet! :)
I'm either going to have to rent or borrow a bike (56-58cm) for that morning.
Wheel World Cyclery - 22718 Ventura Blvd, Woodland Hills appears to be the closest bike shop to where I'll be staying. About 2mi down the road.
I'd probably rather make it a small group with just BF's people. I'm not much of a climber by ya'lls standards so a route with minimal long extended climbs would be good. ;)
Bumps.
Any suggestions for a location for a Friday or Saturday food & drinks location??
Sorry I am in OC unless you are willing to travel.
Still looking for suggestions on where to meet for food and drinks.
And what evening would be better for everyone? Friday 22nd or Saturday 23rd? Happyfeet and I are trying to finalize schedules and such with her folks so we make sure we have the car! :)
I'm open to either day...if you come south a bit, that's probably better for several of us. :)

Yeah, we can certainly head south a fair ways. Just got to make sure we schedule it at a time where we don't get stuck in too much traffic on the 409.

I'm pretty envious Cuda. The riding out there looked awesome and the weather seemed perfect this time of year.
I certainly hope to get a chance to ride. Right now though, hoping to get food plans hammered out. *anyone?*

Just as a note for when you get here in case you ask for directions:
405 = freeway
409 = degreaser/cleaner

 Once again, not enough sleep. :o I didn't think that sounded right when I typed it. Oh well...
Don't be embarrassed, you're being initiated...we only pick on the ones that we like. ;) :p
Thing is I should know better. A lot of my family lives in the L.A. area and been on that freeway enough. But thanks for the initiation. ;)
Ok, after getting HappyFeet's input, we're pretty much good to drive just about anywhere in the Los Angeles area. She's suggested El Cholo which is closer to downtown, or somewhere out towards where the majority of people are going to be coming from. I know jschen would appriciate not having to drive to the north side of LA. ;)
I'm going to play with my mod buttons and see if I can get a poll started for those who may be able to make it.
I'll be on vacation by then, so I can drive most anywhere for a SoCal BF gathering. I'll be based in eastern LA county. In any case, I'm in.
BTW, you do realize even non-mods can add polls to threads that they start? :p

Hi everyone! I thought I'd chime in about food options.
Cuda and I are willing to drive a fair bit, since it seems that SoCal BFers are pretty spread out. I've come up with a few options, but please feel free to suggest other places! We're trying to stay away from national chain restaurants if possible.
Koreatown:
El Cholo http://www.elcholo.com/ My favorite Mexican restaurant when I was at USC, and I still try to visit during the summer for their green corn tamales. Also has a Santa Monica location. Good margaritas. :p
Monterey Park:
If anyone lives out that way and has good Chinese restaurant recommendations, we're all ears. I've been to Ocean Star for dim sum, but since we're thinking of having a dinner get-together, dim sum won't be possible. :(
Marina Del Rey:
Aunt Kizzy's Back Porch http://auntkizzys.com/dinner.htm
Southern Food, no alcohol though.
Long Beach:
Johnny Reb's http://www.johnnyrebs.com/JR_Main.html
Southern Food, 2004 Zagat Guide choice for Best BBQ in LA. Beer and wine.
Pasadena:
I remember there being a lot of Italian restaurants here. Any suggestions? I think I was at Carmine's once and remembered the food as being good.
Irvine:
Taiko - Sushi, Japanese food. Beer and wine.
Too bad In-N-Out doesn't have tables to eat in. ;)
Looking forward to meeting everyone! :)

So, voltman, that's a vote for Irvine, or do you just really like sushi? :)

It's a vote for Irvine, sushi, and Taiko in particular. You've hit the trifecta.

Oh, and In-N-Outs have tables, so you'll need to stop by one at some point during your stay.

Believe me, we will! I was just talking about why it wouldn't work for a BF get-together.
ETA: Any opinions on Animal style? I've always wanted to order my burger that way but I like it the regular way so much, I'm afraid I'll be disappointed. I only get to eat In-N-Out maybe once a year now, so I want to make sure it's tasty. :p

409 = awesome chevy engine!!! Come on SoCalites, the Beach Boys wrote a song about it! She's real fine my 409 ring a bell!

And bring JSharr a cool SoCal In-N-Out t-shirt as a belated b-day present!!! Hint, hint hint. XXL

Sorry.....it's going to be an extremely busy week at the shop for us. We probably won't be able to close shop til around 10pm each night leading up to X'mas Eve.

I know how we feel, we feel blessed to have Whataburger!!!!!!!!Yeah, you guys shouldn't complain since you have great food there too! I used to fly to Richardson very often. Had my first Fogo de Chao meal there, then there's Dickies, Tokyo One and a few others. It's also one of the only places where I can find sweet custard desserts in all Indian restaurants.
Sorry, I won't be able to make the 22nd dinner. A little too far from San Diego on a Friday night; have fun! :o

You should skip the fries if you go this route. @#@# Now I want one (or two :) ) and there isn't one within 3 miles of me, ARGH!
We're up to 4 and 4 now.
Fixer - sorry we're going to miss you this trip out. Don't work yourself too hard. I remember the days of working in retail when this was the busy time of the year and I certainly don't miss getting home at 11pm or later.

For the other 2 that are able to make it so far, where will you be driving from? Hopefully we can pick a place that won't be too far for everyone. Cuda and I will be coming from Woodland Hills, but we're willing to drive up to an hour or so.
I'm in Orange County, Huntington Beach. Just under 40 miles south of LAX, as a reference point.

If you go, don't forget to bring your sense of humor!!!!:D ;)
I'm not sure where I'll be going there from, but afterward, I'm headed to my parents' place, 40 miles east of LA. Brandy's neck of the woods works great for me, but I'm flexible. I love to drive.

Now you tell me! I packed that away last week and I'm not sure that I can reach the box I put it away in. :p

I love to drive.
Lucky for you, Southern California provides plenty of opportunity for driving! :p
How about meeting up for Mexican food at Cafe El Cholo in La Habra? It looks to be a fairly equidistant location for the four of us.
If there's anyone else that wants in, post! :) We're open to suggestions.
La Habra sounds fine by me.
