Texas - Texas BF's Jersey - Interest and Design Thread

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Let's go for round two of this after the Forum crash... :) Who's in?
(I'll dig up prices again soon, but as memory serves, a single jersey after shipping and all is about $56)

Something like this would be my first choice.
This style should be widely accepted though.

A Texas jersey...hmm novel idea.
Was planning on coming up some designs yesterday. Hydroplaning into a parked car sure can suck the creativity out of ya. Not the suggested way of talking one self into bike commuting.

Your Texas jerseys should have a milk carton on the back with a "Have You Seen Me? Please post to BikeForums.net with any information" picture of MERTON.

+1
:D :D
We'd need a picture of MERTON first. ;)
SpiderMike, sorry to hear about the accident. Hopefully the creative jucies come back soon. I don't know if the HHH jersey image of the longhorn skull with drop bars for horns is trademarked, but something simular on the back would be cool (imho).
Plenty of white for our hot Texas summers (and the Champion Systems material is pretty light to begin with which I like) is good too.
from hh100.org:
and
(the long horn with the lone star look)
{also posted above} I like the front side of this jersey alright, but not a fan of the back:
Something about how the flag embedded into the state outline matches up with the different colors on the jersey just looks cheesy to me.

The cow skull with drops would leave out the Mountain bikers, bmx, and fixed gear riders that run riser bars(wonder who that could be:rolleyes: . And to do mountain bike bars would be infringing on an old Primal Wear design. Doing a deer skull with Drops, flat bars, bmx, risers, old scott A 3', and ape hangers I fear would be too busy.
I do have a idea for integrating the "symbols" of our state without causing cluttering. Actually it would be more like "Where's Waldo". Much like the Primal Wear "rock" jerseys, for example, have the inside pocket easter egg of the Merton Missing milk carton image.

I am lost? What were ya'll wanting to do? Get a Jersey?
I am interested in one like the Texas State Jersey. I would buy one like that.

shouldn't it have a jackolope on it, too?
i'll keep coming up with great ideas to inspire y'all. like you could put a Houston Oilers logo on it in a 'love ya blue' tribute.
txtricross - I had started a thread about a possible Texas BF's Jersey design before the server crashed a few nights ago. The thread was lost during the crash, and thus, I've started a new one. :D
Surprised jsharr hasn't stopped by with his thoughts yet. Must be a busy boy today.

I'm up for a jersey if we're ever able to decide on a design. I have no creative skills in this area so I will leave the design ideas to those more capable.
I'd be in for one that had a version of the TX flag!....just let me know when!!
count me in ! I like the skull with the drops for horns ... like dstrong, i'm not skilled in designing things but I can tell you what I think about it ! :) :)

I hope to have a couple of sketches to post on Monday.
Simplist design so far. The Texas flag, just replace the star with a cog.
Edit: Warning... when I say sketches, I literally mean hand sketches. So the pix will be scans or photos from my sketchbook.

Id be up for one, but Im not too excited about the UT one.
If its a flag style jersey, I hope it would be a very unique design.
Texas flag jerseys are all over the place.
SpiderMike is working on a design (or two?) and I may try my hand at a designing one too.

cuda- you might ought to repost this on the Plano club site. Those folks are always looking for more jerseys.

To all the posted about a jersey with the Texas flag....
Would having the Texas flag for the background be suitable for your taste? I have a couple of ideas, but it would be up to all of us to decide what goes on the jersey.

Maybe you could base it on an old historical texas flag like this one:
I don't mind the TX flag as a background.. as a matter of fact I like the one Hobartlemagne posted a lot !!
Something like this would be my first choice.
This style should be widely accepted though.
Fixed your broken image for you!!! Scoreboard! Gig' Em Aggies!
Depending on the design, I may be interested. May I be an honorary Texan? :D
I am in, as long as I like design. HHH design is nice, not overly fond of the cowhead though, or something with colors of Texas flag. Would not bother me not to have a cowhead on the jersey at all.

I move to make Jschen an honorary Texan for service above and beyond the call of duty for BF. Do I have a second?
here are two other historic Texas flags I like

Sure, as long as he can handle all the hot sauce ;)
Of course jschen! :)
Great ideas all, keep 'em coming. :)
Yipee! :D I look forward to seeing your finalized jersey design. :)

I'm in but it depends on the design. I am not too creative but I will voice what will make me not buy one: UT colors and Texas flag background. Like someone stated earlier, there are too many jerserys out there with the Texas flag theme and I just don't like the UT colors. I'm pretty open as far as the design goes.

Do we have a Texas Bike Forum meeting point? I know some ride with the Mad Duck group, but was wondering if there was another spot for meeting Bike Forum DFW members.
txtricross - we've organized a few small group rides now and then, but we don't have a regular ride that any of us do at the current time. I know a number of BF's members ride with PBA over on my side of town. Lotek, Lecterman (now departed for NH), jsharr and I rode together last weekend up in Denton.
Back to the design - I'll try to throw together a design this weekend and post it as a starting point for more input. Look forward to seeing what others come up with as well.

I ride with the PBA usually. Id be up for a BF DFW group ride if we start one up.

Yup... I look forward to the TX BF jersey. And to the 30th. Make sure to bring your low gears. :D If we get around to climbing to the Mt Baldy ski lifts, the last 4.6 miles of climbing average 8.6% grade. The last 3 miles of the climb average 10% grade. The last quarter mile is about 15% grade. Unless you're ultralight, hitting 50+ MPH on the way down is virtually guaranteed. (And even if you're ultralight, well, I hit 56.1 MPH with a good tailwind.) And make sure your brakes are in excellent condition.

I run a standard triple but will certainly be replacing my 13-23 with my 12-27! You may have picked up in various other discussions that Austin has a lot of rolling hills and very few long descents, so typically long periods of braking aren't part of a ride. This will be a new experience for me. I have yet to crack 40 mph so this will be a good opportunity to do so if I can hold my nerve. I'm also praying the weather will hold for us. I don't have much cold weather gear (knee warmers only, half-finger gloves, 1 long sleeve jersey) so I'm trying to figure out if I need to go buy some stuff or just put out a plea for the other riders to bring along some of their extras that I might be able to use in case it's colder than expected.
Put out a plea for cold weather gear. If you do it far enough in advance, we should be able to get you some stuff.
Ok, who's going to step up with the first design? I haven't gotten a chance to work on one yet. Let's see what else people are coming up with. :)

I'd be interested, design dependent of course. I like that old blue Texas flag.

I think an all dark blue jersey with the star and t.e.x.a.s spelled around it would be an easy
design and look really cool too. c'mon- let use it!

This one is The Greater Dallas Bicyclist's design but something similar to this would be cool.

I'd be hesitant to go with something too dark given then hot sunny conditions we typically ride in. What about the opposite. Light colored (grey?) with a dark blue star and letters. I like the idea of BF logos in strategic spots also and the "Come and Take It" phrase could add a certain pizzaz...like motivating those behind you to overtake and drop you!
I was thinking of doing an inverse of the colors on the Texas around the star flag too. I've been playing with some different ideas, but my graphics programs are a bit limited.

I like the shading. Definitely want to see a Texas style to it.
