That man needs to play baseball with his son and invest in a Louisville Slugger.

If he had tried to use a bicycle helmet the guy would have laughed and beat the crap out of him

Indeed, a Giro Atmos probably wouldn't make the best weapon. Fibreglass full-face, maybe.

A helmet was the best weapon he could find? I'm surprised it worked.

Good thing it was a football helmet, a bike helmet would have broken on the first hit.

A broken helmet would have been PROOF that it saved his life!

LOL... my son moved out this summer, and in "reclaiming" his room I have discovered a whole cache of old bats... from T ball all the way up to High School... kind of an interesting history of his youth. Almost as good as the marks on the wall showing his growth.

Well that settles the dispute over owning a helmet-not only do helmets protect the head, they also fight crime. Don't know if a bike helmet would be as effective as a football helmet, as to wearing them on a regular basis, well, I guess that debate will continue.

Ah, you see...the burgler should have been wearing a helmet.

yes, head injury by assault is 4.5 times more likely than by bicycle (9% vs. 2% of hospital admissions)

We need a mandatory helmet law for pedestrians walking at night.

The next time I burgle a house I will wear my helmet!

It should be mandatory for burglars to wear helmets. Otherwise helmetless burglars should not be able to collect damages from their victims when suing for injuries incurred in the commision of the crime. I think I heard about that interpretation of legal liability on A&S somewhere; maybe it was deleted in the big server meltdown.:)

Did the homeowner get flagged for a penalty? Maybe a facemask? : )

I couldn't resist.

Williams said. ''I got my son's helmet from the garage, went out there and hit him several times. I started from the head and worked my way down to the body.''

Just exactly how thorough was this guy with the beating??
