I've got a pair of Campag Nuovo Gran Sport levers, and the end of the brake cable seems firmly lodged in it's slot in the lever. I can't shift it at all. Any ideas?

Can I take it that I'm the only person ever to suffer this? It seems to me like both the cable end, and the bit it hooks into in the lever are aluminium. Is this a safe assumption?

you could try carefully drilling away some of the cable end and either insert a long screw and tying to pull it out, or keep drilling in steps with slightly larger bits until the cable end is gone.

a dremel with a tiny grinding bit would be easier to get at it with. those cable ends are pretty soft. also, if your grind/cut the cable off right at the end, the force from the drill/dremel will probably just pop it out anyway.

I used a metal bbq skewer for something similar

For the win! The combination of pressure and twisting did the job. Thanks!

Glad you posted this; I've got the end of a cable cracked and stuck in the slot in a road bike lever. Too bad I don't have a dremel.
