I was wondering
glad it's still on
yeah the only hints I know is you get on your bike and ride the course.. :)
me and a good friend of mine are still planning on being at stupid restaraunts working stupid jobs and getting stupid money to build more stupid bikes for ourselves... so we'll be seeing ya at B&B's later on!

sorry if that was harsh. I just feel like asking how many miles, hints, and **** like that is pretty dumb. Alleycats have always been a fun thing to do after working 200 plus miles a week.. Well at least that is what it is for me..

it wasn't harsh, but nor is my asking for hints dumb. wtf? some races are long and some are short. some require endurance, some are sprints. I'd ride my road bike for some races and my fixed for others. anything thats just in downtown/west philly makes sense for a track bike, but if it has checkpoints in germantown than I want my gears.
and some people who race (gasp) are not bike messengers. if you want a messenger-only race, go back to the 1980s.
iaw dailey.
questions about races are dumb.
just ride and have fun. if you win... awesome.
if not... oh well.
yeah I hear you. as far as i know it will take you a hour to do.. most of the alleycats I have ever ridden in philly have been far. Germantown on a fix isn't bad..
not that i am the all-defining source on alleycat etiquette, but my few years experience tells me to bring/ride whichever bike (wow, people have more than 1 bike!?!) one feels most comfortable riding in a city. If the race/event (however you want to define an alleycat) will put any road-oriented bike at a severe disadvantage, then that aspect is often advertised beforehand. And even if it isn't, almost all will show up their road or track bike, and that one guy on a mountain bike will rejoice.
Yes, i agree that alleycats are no longer messenger exclusive, but i still feel that they are based upon fun and excitement (and riding), regardless of the competitiveness

sorry to precipitate this pseudo-drama, but I've done two alleycats in philly, and several in NYC. before alleycats up here, there is often talk about "so, you gonna gear up for this race, I hear the course is flat" etc. or, "that race will be like 40 miles, I'm bringing my road bike," or "its short and full of traffic, ride fixed." thats all. stuff like this gives me an excuse to swap cogs and play with my handlebars.
So who wants to grab some booze and have an ernest marathon some night this week so as to be well prepared?
school has really hindered my bicycle career and this is one weekend too early. I'll be studying reinforced concrete design all day while you *******s are riding your bicycles.
for you folks that are interested in hints. I know there will be some checkpoints you will have to do stuff from the movies. So, yeah seems like it will be one of those do stuff races then get stamped and go to the next checkpoint...

boo
c'mon adam you can make it
bonus! i was coming to philly anyways to visit a friend and now i get to race too! i think there are some other new yorkers coming too. chombo, you still in on this?
ps. no more clues please. showing up unprepared for a race is half the fun.
work makes me want to cry when it also makes me miss the alleycat... but work shall not keep me from bob and barbras!
i'll be locking to a sign post near by with the kona sometime between 10 and 11

Max, Ellis, Ashley, other Philly folks I've ridden with and forgot your bf "handles", are you going? Pete, ever the alleycat hater, you coming? PS, I saw Pete the super reflective jacket guy heading west on Kelly Dr last night. We were zipping by too fast and I didn't recognize you until it was too late. Cold, eh?
If I'm addressing you and you're thinking "Who's this goofball?" I'm Luke, the blue Schwinn-with-basket rider of late while I'm building Stella back up. And I'm a goofball.

I'll be down. I think Shishi said he might come through, and Pablo said he was considering it.

Yessssss! It snowed last night on my mtb ride in the Wiss. Super surreal, bombing down snow dusted trails with the flakes swirling in my headlight beam.
pete is doing a cross race in belmont tomorrow morning then he's busy the rest of the day booo
chombo, you still in on this?
yeah, sorry for the mad late response
we're going down in the am tomorrow, 10-ish c-town bus..hopefully linking up with the crew that goes down tonight
there must be too many petes with reflective jackets in philly...
i wasnt on kelly drive though on the 7th now that i think about it...
but either way... maybe a battle to the death is in order?

fun race. its great to finally get recognized for the messiness of my manifests
The way I went (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=581315)
The way I should have went (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=581286)
but looking at it on a map, Camden made the most sense of all.

yikes, kinda pissed i missed this one. Hope it was fun for all, and hopfully i'll make the next one.
Btw, what did the manifest look like?
6 stops, the third one listed had top be done third BUT if you went to Camden and bought a bottle of Mad Dog you could skip one of the six stops and you didn't have to do then in any order.
1. 34th and Girard
-This stop you got egged
2. N. American and Oxford
-This stop was ghetto cx in a vacant lot
3. 20th and Catharine
-This stop was at a bball court where you had to hit a free throw. Anyone else completely suck at that?
4. 19th and the Parkway
-This stop you had to climb on a statue (in clipless shoes it was scary)
5. 18th between Callowhill and Spring Garden
-This stop you had to go to a building at Phila Community College and get a course book and bring it back to 18th between Callowhill and Spring Garden.
6. 13th and Filbert
-This stop you got a FedEx envelope to deliver to the Roundhouse and keep going.
Finish at Bob and Barbara's. Sweet race.
20th and catharine... everyone sucked. I think the average person took like 8 shots to get it in. The shott was far but come on folks throw the ball in the black square behind the hoop. You will make it most of the time.. I felt like someones coach yelling at you all...

Thanks coach Dailey. "Ok guys hit the showers!"
so who went to camden?
at least 15 or 20. I know the kid doing that chekpoint said there were a **** ton in his bag at b&b's....
so who went to camden?
I saw at least 20 bikers who did.
As I left the liquor store this box wine woman screamed 'WHAT IS THIS A MAD-DOG MARATHON!!??!'

that is funny because two of the bikers gave her that box wine....
oh man, any race involving Camden is a great race. Did the winner take the Camden option and prove that it was worth it? or did all the Camdem kids come in last?
Im pretty sure the top 5 and most of the top 15 took the Camden option.
First girl did it all philly and came in 10th overall
yeah anightinthewood is right...
