I was on the phone when my daughter said "look mom, a little bird is in the house"
I dropped the phone and said "it's not a bird, it's a %@## bat!!!!!"
called my hubby at work who says to me,"we dont have bats!, sure it wasnt a moth?"
yeah sure it wasnt a moth:rolleyes:
He comes home and gets to bed convincing me that I saw a moth.
In the middle of the night I see this full moon crawling on the ground closing my closet door, crawling quickly to the bathroom door to shut it, Im stunned looking at him saying "what are you doing????" he says" be quiet!! " and this full moon crawls to the bedroom door and out he goes..
I pulled the cover over my head thinking..oh oh, the bat..
He comes back in the dark, naked butt holding a baseball bat and waering a camouflage hat:rolleyes:
Im on the ground laughing, he's swingging the bat ( the baseball bat that is) left and right trying to catch that things and all I can do is laugh saying " you sure it isnt a moth???"
I hope you at least said it in french so that it sounded good!

there was a thread recently on rabies. anyway, someone said that anytime you have a bat in the house you should get a rabies shot. apparently they can bite you and fly off without you even noticing while you sleep.

I dont know how much i can joke here, I mean this is my poor hubby! but yeah, with the double bat action going on, i thought for sure he'd get a hit!
We had one in a Christmas tree one year. We got it inside, noticed him in the tree, and put it back outside before he woke up. Close call - that room had cathedral ceilings and would have been really hard to catch him!

If that bat (the bird) is still in your house or if you find other bats I suggest the following advice:
1. Get a towel.
2. Go to where the bat is.
3. Throw the towel over the bat. It can't bite you through the towel.
4. Wrap the towel around the bat.
5. Carry wrapped bat to your door and open it.
6. Release bat into the outside environment and close the door.
Bon Chance!

Great advice. Best story since blackbirds attacked Flippin Sweet. Now you need an avatar of your husband, naked, fighting a bat with a bat in a hat.

Forget steps 5 and 6. Just bite the head off the bat and spit the blood on somebody.

Best story of me as a kid (9 years old) involving a bat....one got into the house...next thing my mom knew was I was charing through the house with a rather tough plastic katana in my hands taking swings at this bat.
My mom saw the bat and screamed for my dad....my dad saw me charing aorund with a sword, and went to get his belt.....he didn't relaize there was a bat....during his attempt to belt me, the bat pegs him right in the face, he gets mad and starts cursing.....next thing you knwo he has a can of hairspray and a lighter....by then I had hit the bat with the sword, and it laid upon the ground unconscious.
Moral of the story: Some stories have no morals at all, just laugh :)

We get bats sometimes - man, they are hard to get back out the house. There are worse things though - like recently my wife looked up (I just don't look up - then I can't see anything in the ceiling - works for me) and saw something really big and hairy. A tarantula - you know, those things are huge when you are too close to one.
I figure anything that eats bugs is my friend - however I am generally out voted on that one. Lizards are okay - but not tarantulas. We have this almost lizard - perhaps it is a newt here that is REALLY poisons. Found one in our house a couple of times. That one I don't like at all.
My rule of thumb, if it runs - it is probably okay - if it doesn't, it probably is poisions or something equally as bad.
We have vampire bats here - but I don't think we have rabies at all. I rather doubt the bat you had in NH was a potential rabies carrier - I have never heard of a vampire bat up that far. But, it never hurts to ask the local DEC or something.
This is a cute little guy (8 feet) that I met the first day I was walking the finca we live on now.
This is not a zoomed photo. He would handle your bat for you since bats are a favorite food of boas.

I meant "it" didnt catch the bat, decreasing chances of "it" catching rabbies, therefore it would of acted like a raging lunatic!!!

Remember the dream house you talked about? Is it too late to move? Are you REALLY sure it was JUST a bat and not, perhaps, a *shudder* vampire?
