Well, since I'm going home for Christmas, I'm not decorating my apartment this year except for a few little knick knacks. But I am going to help my Mom and sister decorate the Christmas tree my parents have had since I was six. Yes, it's fake (my mother has a thing about chopping down trees), and it is so old at this point, it's needles are probably all bent. I'll pour a little bourbon in my eggnog and by the time we're finished decorating, it will look just fine to me. :D

yikes! that tree is still useable? we just bought a new one a couple years ago... cuz the one we had was all broken when we got it out..... got a pre-lit one! BEST thing we ever did!

i can understand the not cutting down trees things..... although i still remember going to my uncle's as a little girl.... and going out into the woods on his property.... picking out and cutting down our (and my grandmother's) christmas tree every year! but then my parents and grandmother both went the way of artificial! but nothing smells as good as a real tree.... but by the time you finish decorating a fake one... they look just as gorgous (sometimes better) than real!

oh.... and we put ours up sunday.... and decorated it monday (decided we wanted new ribbon and garland for it this year so had to wait to decorate it after we bought those!)

Well...I never said it was useable. In fact, I'll have to take a photo and post it. I'm sure it will be funny looking. But we're country folk (NO, my parents do not have pink flamingos in their yard) so it's more tradition than appearance that matters. Well, that and the whole spiked-eggnog thing. Everything looks good when you're drinking home-made eggnog. :p

I bet your tree looks pretty...pic???:D

i realized after looking at this pic.... i have a few spots on the bottom that are bare.... so i need to rearrange a few ornaments! (one good thing.... i get to decorate all sides of the tree cuz it's on a rotating base.... so it spins round and round (slowly) (i'll take a video of it doing it circle either sometime before christmas or at least christmas eve or morning and post it to photobucket)

I get to handle that this weekend. I am pulling out my artificial tree (was my parents and bought over 30 years ago and still works great), all the ornaments, lights, garland, and stockings (fishnet and regular)...

I will purchase two wreaths this year; one for the outside of the front door and one for over the fireplace. These will be real, so that way I get the real pine tree smell inside...

yes he did! he'll spend a LOT of time under there between now and when it comes down! and he's already gotten smacked for stealing one of the little stockings.... at least he's too big to actually climb up the branches (i think.... ugh... have i cursed myself?) we put it up in the computer room instead of the living room so we can close the door and close them all out while we are at work..... asleep..... or out..... no need to temp them like that when there is noone around! lol! especially since 98% of our ornaments look like cat and dog toys!

all these old trees... they just must have made them better back then! cuz ours wasn't all that old and it literally just deteriorated... but then.... it was in the attic in the desert heat the 11 months out of the year!

i'm always tempted to get a real wreath to get the smell..... they had some at sam's and they smelled soooooo good! make sure you take pics and post them!

My kittens will be in climbing heaven after we get it up. I just hope they don't wrestle IN the tree:eek:
I had to return some of the decor I bought to make it a bit more kitty safe.

what do you consider SMALL???? mine are 13 weeks old and growing more with all the food they eat. They don't have to fight with 12 other cats for their food. It's funny watching them eat and push each others head outa the way.

well.... 12-13 weeks is still small... but i thought they were littler (6-8 weeks!) kittens are cutre when they eat... they either do the butting each other out of the way like your two.... or one lets the other eat first (that's what bailey and jasmine used to do).... now they get fed separately and measured to make sure they get only what they should have!

When I was growing up, our cat would have at any ornaments that were hanging low, so the bottom 1/3 of the tree was always bare.

Same here! Actually, very minimal and hardly noticable. My neighbors may call the PC police on us if we put up anything suggesting Christmas out in front....(as we are surrounded by pc libs)...:p

But we started putting up X'mas ornaments in our businesses over the weekend........Oh, and we wish every one of our customers a Merry Christmas, instead of that "happy holidays" crap that's been going around....:)

Still in the process of decorating the house and the tree. Just can't get too many ornaments on the tree. Here's the work in progress...

I like Thomson's house so much better than mine. My little apartment is almost consumed by that darn tree! I promise by this weekend I will have all the decorations up and my house will be clean and tidy (I hope, I hope, I hope)

well just think, pam... the larger the apartment/house... the more area to clean.... ick! smaller is better in this case! lol! and your tree looks lovely! it's worth having it "take over" for a few weeks!

Thanks Cali... I do love putting up the tree (well no I don't like the effort - but I love the result). It just makes the house so festive and "sparkly". I turn the tree on first thing in the morning while I'm getting ready for work and then again as soon as I get home.

Funny story - I have lot of glass birds on the tree. They are now mostly up high. Came home Tuesday evening and my cat had pulled most of them (even some up high I have no idea how he got them) and had them piled up on the floor next to the tree. I'm sure he was quite proud of his bird catch that day!!! Thankfully none were broken. He has chewed up some of my older, non-glass ornaments. darn! Some I've had for almost 35 years!

caligurl
11-30-06, 12:37 PM
TELL ME YOU TOOK A PICTURE!!!!???????????????? what a cute (sort of) story! showing you the prey he caught!

ouch.... well... maybe not... you were probably too TICKED to think about a picture at that time.... 35 years... that's a long time to have them destroyed by a naughty fur baby! i'd be pretty upset and heartbroken.....

scenes like that are exactly why our tree is in the computer room.... safely behind a closed door at night and when we are out of the house! i know it's an unusual place.... but since bailey and jasmine are still quite young.... we just felt it was better that way.... plus we don't crate brie anymore either... i'm sure she'd be right there helping them! (and she knows better!) plus we do spend more time in the puter room than the living room anyways.... so might as well have it where we are! right?

good luck with keeping fuzzbutt away from the ornaments for the rest of the season!
