Alright, who loves chocolate?! What's your favorite kind?

I prefer mine dark. So far, the best I've had is Ghirardelli 60% Cacao Dark Chocolate.

I freaking love 'Delli.

For me it's dark, too. :)

I also have a few bags of Nestle Toll House Semi-sweet chips I snack on.

I love chocolate. I'm not picky, though I prefer dark chocolate. Once ate a 1 kg bar of chocolate in one sitting. Right after lunch.

I've had some pretty bad experiences bingeing on chocolate.

I almost won $50 CDN by eating one of those 5 pound Hershey's Milk Chocolate bars.

The Valrhona chocolates (http://www.valrhona.com) are quite good. Get them at Trader Joe's. :)

Milk chocolate is like heaven. Even the 70% is good, taste nothing like the chocolate garbage in the supermarket, but definitely an acquired taste. Real good though.

dark chocolate, but i also love swiss milk chocolate like Milka bars.

Next week my sister and I are being treated to my mother's homemade chocolate cake- the occasion is both our birthdays ( a few days apart). I can't describe her chocolate cake... it has to be experienced. It follows a dinner of turkey and sweet potatoes... can't wait!

Actually if you eat it the way they tell you, break off a piece and let it melt in your mouth. Don't expect it to taste sweet, it tastes fruity, mhmm.

When my mom was in Epcot in Orlando, she bought me some 75% pure cocoa chocolate from the German place. It was actually pretty hard for me to eat. I would just hold it and smell it.

Lindt Excellence 99%. Very hard to find though. I often settle for their 85% bars, which are far easier to find.

I like El Rey. It's a pure Venzuelan chocolate. Awesome stuff. I think they do a 75 or 80%. It's not really sweet at all, more like a dark coffee. You smell and feel it as much as you taste it.

check out Target, they Stock the Lindt excellence line. 99% is only availible in the Lindt retail shops, and only select ones at that. I know San Francisco has them, not sure where else.

His website isn't up yet, but the stuff is awesome, and the smell of the place when you walk in.....
Although I just had a dark organic bar from a natural food store, I forget who made it but it had a panther on the wrapper, that was quite good as well

My favorite. It's dense and earthy and the aftertaste isn't too sweet. Oh, and it's sold at a store just a block from where I live.

is chocolate fuel for cyclists? well, we prefer ours belgium. almost any belgium. that goes for beer too.
but, please go to belgium to visit the chocolate artisans. at the chocolate shops. works of art. some verge on poronographic.at least, in the US, i doubt such works be displayed at the front window. ? woman's bodies can be beautiful, even if re-created by chocolate. at like 50 dollars a taste, can't say i've ever sampled the quality of the chocolate.

Kind of off topic, but just so everybody knows, many if not most people who have panick attacks can stop having them if they quit eating chocolate. Most doctors will say thats I'm full of ****, but nutritionists have known it for a while. 2 people I know used to have panick attacks and don't anymore because they quit eating chocolate.

Hmmmm, I think I'm just the opposite. Whenever I have anxiety or start to get to worked up about something, I can eat a bit of chocolate and feel better and more relaxed.

Give me a Symphony bar with toffee and nuts - or better - Belgian chocolate... as long as it isn't that bitter dark crap.

Isn't Dagoba the system where Luke goes to train with Yoda? Or am I off by a few letters?:)

Anyway, I've had the Lindt 85% and it is quite tasty. Definitely not for the milk chocolate pansies.:p Hehe. Just kiddin'! Milk chocolate is almost too sweet for me, tho. I always have some form of dark chocolate around the house. I've also tried Newman's Own Organic and it's pretty good, tho I'm not sure how high the cacao content is. Had some Belgian chocolate(in Belgium), but don't remember what maker it was. Very good, regardless who made it. Damnit, now I want chocolate...!

what I love the most about quality dark chocolate is that it's not just bitter, like Hershey's is. It's got some real flavor behind it as well.

there is really only one problem with any chocolate as far as I'm concerned and that is that supposedly in Cote d'Ivoire they use unpaid and forced children to harvest cacao (ie. slave labor). South America used to lead the world in cacao production but a fungal disease called "witches broom" decimated the harvest some year back and now the majority of cacao comes from Afrika and Cote d'Ivoire. Chocolate manufacturers are all very sensitive about revealing their cacao sources because the afrikan situation has recieved a lot of exposure and a lot of smaller manufacturers capitalise on it with "organic" or "free trade products" but like any boycott I don't think its going to help anyone in afrika.

I'm not heavily into boycotts, and I agree that it won't really help anyone in Africa, but I still don't eat child slave labor chocolate. I guess luxury treats are where I draw the line. The Equal Exchange chocolate comes from Latin America, and it is fairly traded. The food co-op up the street is highly suspicious, and did thorough research into Equal Exchange. That said, it also happens to be my favorite chocolate. It just tastes better to me. I also find if the chocolate is high quality, I don't eat as much.

There are many smaller companies that sell chocolate from cacao that is not harvested by child slaves. Even better, it tends to taste better (to me at least) than larger companies' chocolate. If you're interested, here's a list of fairly traded brands (http://www.globalexchange.org/campaigns/fairtrade/cocoa/retailers.html). If you're a major chocoholic, it wouldn't hurt to try.

Lindt and Cadbury's are probably my favorite brands of chocolate. As for the darkness of the chocolate, I usually enjoy something around the 70% range.

You know what I like to do with my chocolates, enhance the flavor by 1000%. Imagine that you're at work on a long exhausting day...

And you know your favorite bar of chocolate at home in the cupboard just waiting for you... You feel your shoulders tense up from the pressure at work... the back of your mouth gets sore and tired from clenching your jaw...

The juices in your mouth starts to flow as you imagine the sweet smooth taste of that chocolate... uhmmmm.... But not yet, you've still got work to do! The hours creep agonizingly by as you dream about that tart bitter taste... >DING< the 5-oclock alarm goes off and you're home in an instant!

BANG crashes the cupboard doors as you fling them open... You grab the chocolate bar violently and rip off its flimsy wrappings... with the prize exposed... you open wide for the kill.... but no... you pause... this could be better...

... you break off a corner square and slowly wave it past your nose and gently >SNIFFff< in the intoxicating aroma... AAahhhhh.... the scent is simply divine... as you feel the tension relaxing in your shoulders...

You gently place the dark square on your tongue and slowly close down as you feel the coolness warm up on your tongue and get softer and smoother and sweeter... YUmmmm... you slowly swirl the thick mixture around your mouth, coating your tongue with ever more intense flavors... as you pour yourself a glass of a sweet red wine like a Merlot or Beaujolais...

As you bring the glass to your nostrils, you can feel the last solid remnants of the chocolate dissolve completely and filling your mouth with incredible taste..... >SNIFF< Ahh.... You gently open your lips and pour down a trickle of wine.. AAAHhh.... it goes down so smoothly, carrying some of the molten cocoa along....

You take another gulp, but keep it in your mouth... swirl.. swish... as your adept tongue moves the mixture around, you can alternately taste sweet and sour.. solid and liquid as the chocolate and wine mixes.... Ummm.... you can feel the heat building up in the mixture as your body warms it up.. when it reaches body-temperature the taste is simply mahvelous...... and you swallow the nectar and feel it flowing down deep..... ahhhh.... :)
