This may be real stupid but to let out the frustration and anger I have been harboring lately, I decided to do something I really don't like.
I have an appointment to fight tomorrow morning. I mean spar. With someone who is the top student of my friend, who wants to train me in his style. This student is his "fighter". My styles are completely different so we shall see how it goes.
Wish me luck. :D
Loser has to be trained by the other.
Good luck. Kick some arse! And have someone take pictures so you can post them here! :D

What style of fighting is it going to be?

His student does Jeet Kun Do.
Mine is a mix of Okinawan Karate, Judo, Kung fu, Aikido, Jujitsu, Tae Kwon Do and Grappling.
He has no training when he is down. That is where the grappling will bring me over on submissions.

Have you tried Shotokan Karate?
That's how I roll.
Bu if you get me on the ground, I'm worfless. :)
Get him in the clench and knee him right in the nose. Works everytime. Wam, bam, thank you mam.

JKD is one of the best upright fighting styles IMO. Very little wasted motion and good power generated. But grapling is where you'll have the advantage I think. Good luck Sui!

Dabbled a little in it. But my main discipline is Okinawan.

I studied martial arts for a long time myself. I eventually found that those fancy shmancy moves are rather impossible to do right in a violent situation without a decade+ of training. I bought an ASP and stopped worrying about it.

Well you know me, Mich. I'm planning on using my legs the most. Better to keep distance ;)
A couple of my friends have been taking Tae Kwon Do on and off for the last couple of years. If I have the time, I'd like to try to get into it this summer. Sounds like a fun way to keep in shape and meet chicks. I went to some of there practices and even got to spar a little, and there were probably more chicks there than dudes. Yeah, sounds fun.
Will there be any jello involved?
Whip him with that really long hair, it will sting!! He will cry. You shall win.

Something I was taught and have come to agree with is that its best not to get involved personaly with people you study martial arts with. People are there to learn to fight. People you practice and spar with are not friends or opponents, they are partners. If you have a true interest in martial arts I don't think picking up chicks should be on the top of your priority list at classes, but if picking up chicks and a little exersize is the point from the get go, sounds good to me.

It happens a lot in martial arts. An 80 year old woman beat the crap out of me sparring once.

Brandon (my opponent) won't really be on the wrong end of my frustration. That would be using him to take things out on.
My frustration is overwhelming me tremendously right now, so much I am afraid that it is almost too much for me. I need to have some control over what is happening within and usuallly going back to martial arts will do it for me. It requires discipline and deep inner control, so as to not "beat" your opponent into submission. If I can control my physical confrontations, I have my mind under control. Hence being able to piece together what is taking over me and put it back into place in a constructive manner.
This is a healing process for me and I hope to God that things go well today.

Those exist. That is a different style than what I am trained in. :)
Anyhow,
Just got a call from my friend to verify that I will be there. OMG. This is gonna be a deal. This guy that I am going up against has an advantage over me: HE IS ALSO A BOXER!! Which means he is good with his hands and quick movements. I am good with legs/feet and grappling/submission holds.
Ahhh crap. I'm toast now.
My strategy would have to be to not let him get close enough to deck me one. That is where my legs would come in handy. Ohhhh man. I'm not so fired up today as I was yesterday. Aw gee what did I get myself into? :o
Hey, if he doesn't knock me out cold than I can always get in on the floor.
And no, I'm not chickening out. I'm just more mellow today than I was yesterday. :D

Prayer?.....Oh Lord, please guide me and help me render forth to have what it takes for me to be able to accomplish my goal of complete self control and release the anger so I may be able to open myself up to greater acceptance of circumstance and of my destiny....Thank you Lord for this strength. I'd recommend taking him to the ground fast. Shoot in on him and trip him, then use the grappling skills. From what I've read in the thread he has the advantage in every other area. If he has a tremendous strength advantage that might also be of concern grappling... Good luck and let us know how it goes. :)
