Foo - Nick Burns. Do you have one?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Does your company have one of these guys? He doesn't have to just be a computer guy. Sometimes there is a guy at work who simply knows EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING! We got one here. Who else?

not really but I do have a lot of people who "think" they know everything
I am that guy that knows a lot about many things. I don't know everything about anything, nor do I know something about everything. But from useless trivia, to lock picking, to auto repair, to whatever. That's me.
And if you come to me with something I don't know, or don't know how to do it, I jot it down on a (pretty big) list of stuff to learn, or to learn how to do. OCD much?
Yes, his name is jsharr and he is a total jerkwad!

I'm the resident omnipotent being here....well close...if I don't know it, I can find out in little time at all.
There is a difference between knowing a LOT of things and knowing EVERYTHING. I'm all for knowledgable people. In fact I consider myself one. But I am referring to the people that spend basically every waking moment, telling people how smart they are.
I would prefer that a "know it all" come in humble packaging. It gets damned irritating when it comes the other way. Our know it all, knows it all. Cancer, computers, cars, carpentry, world peace....don't matter, he knows it.
Trouble is, he is smart and does know a lot about some things, so most people just believe everything he says.

I did not know that we worked together, cool! Stop by my cube later and I will tell you how to cure cancer with a computer generated, automotive, wooden peace sign!
Knowledge Is Power.
Power Corrupts.
Study Hard.
Be Evil.

Yeah, and those people who 'THINK' they know everything, really piss off those of us who do. :) :roflmao:

I would think that a real know-it-all would at least know who he worked with. ;)

noone likes a know it all or someone that constantly points out your mistakes to prove that he knows better.
But the way i see it. You have to kind of feel bad for them, they only do this out of insecurity, you've achieve a certain something to them that puts thier security in jerperdy, therefore they have to constantly remind you that they are above you, but it's really a remimder to themselves, sort of like," OK Im smarter, Im OK, he or she is not going to jerperdise this, Im still OK.."
it's just thier insecurities talking..
Now, lay on my couch, Ill spycho-analyse anything you thow at me, and it's for free! just dont put your shoes on my couch!

I think you are pretty much right. But sometimes you would just like to put an end to it all and say,
"BS. I've been listening to you for 5 years now and you are so full of crap it ain't even funny. We all know you are a freakin' genius, but enough already. I don't want to hear one more word about how you did it better, smarter or faster. Shut the hell up!"
Man that would be nice. :D

A long time ago when I worked for Lexmark we had a guy like that who worked in the MIS department.
He pissed off so many people that someone went to his house, killed his dog, brought it back and left the body on the hood of his car.
we got full time security shortly afterwards
