Hey gang...I haven't posted much here but I really enjoy this board..so much knowledge. I sure could use some advice, here's my situation (keep in mind I'm a total newbie):

Finally decided I had to learn how to fix a flat..so I bought a tube and had at it (rear tire). Everything went good and after a short test ride I thought all was multi-bueno. That was until I put my bike on my kurt kinetic trainer. I now have a slight noise, almost like a barely audible clicking sound/feeling. Another strange thing is that it only does it when the chain gets to the middle of the rear sprocket pack..doesen't do it when I'm in the first 2 or 3 lower gears. The chain doesen't seem to be rubbing on anything or touching anything it isn't supposed to be.

When I first noticed the slight noise/feeling I realized that I installed the tire in the wrong direction so I flipped it around (more practice at changing tires) and the noise/sound is still there.

I didn't adjust anything as far as the deraileur or gears goes...Everything works fine and it may be nothing. I did put a nice coat of lube on the chain when I was done..don't imagine that could do anything..any advice/opinions on what may have happened? Thanks in advance.

Unlikely it is the tire.

Do you get the sound when the bike is not on the trainer? It could be the bike trainer setup. In your middle cogs you are usually going faster than in your lower gears. You may be rocking a little with the extra effort and causing your setup to click. Go to www.parktools.com and find out how to check for chain stretch. You may need a new chain and/or cogset.

By the way, it is better to use a descriptive subject heading when starting a thread. You're more likely to get useful answers that way.

Holy shiznit's...Sheldon, I used your page for the instructions on changing my flat..Printed em up and had em out in the garage with me during the surgery LOL...Can't believe I'm actually conversating with you..

I agree, I should have made the subject more descriptive..thank you very much for the website and reply..invaluable for a newbie such as mebloodyself.

Masiman, you know, I did try it on the road and the noise is still there..Everything looks to be bueno as far as lining up; chain, gears, etc. I don't think it's the tire; but I was working on it so that is a distinct possiblity LOL.

It's strange to me that it only happens when the chain is in the middle of the rear sprockets..I bet Sheldon hit the nail on the head..I'm betting the derailler is out of wack/adjustment..wouldn't that affect it in all gears/sprockets though?

When I'm in the lower 2 or 3 gears it's smooth as silk..then I switch to the upper 4 gears or so, on the rear sprockets and I get the slight noise/sound.

At lunch time I did about a half hour on the trainer, and while it's not bad, it's definitely not like it was before I mucked around with it...The worse part is, it happens on the sprocket I use the most LOL..Oh well..thanks again for the replies.

After looking at Sheldon's tutorial about adjusting the derailer, I think I'd let a shop do that job..

It may also be that the noise was always there but you only noticed it when you use the bike on the trainer. No wind in the ears lets you hear a lot more of the things that squeak rattle and bump on your bike.
