I ride a 2005 Scott Speedster S5, and after 1,000 miles I'd like to upgrade to a carbon fork... but what is this whole steerer size thing about? It looks like there's 1" and 1 1/8". Is there an easy way to find out which I need?
If you want easy toss your your bike into your pickup (you are in Texas, right?) and take it to a decent bike shop and ask them what size you need.

The easiest way is to measure across the top of your steerer tube. It will either be 1" or 1-1/8". If its a 2005, its most likely a 1-1/8".
