Northeast - Fun Random NYC Night Rides

Barring any unexpected dates with the better half, I should be in. To folder or not to folder, that is the question...

I'm heading from 26th up the greenway to the GW at 6:00 or so on my folder, towing a kid trailer around 10MPH. Wave as you pass...

Leaving at 6 or getting up there at 6?

Leaving 6th Ave. and 27th (preschool) around 5:30-5:45, hitting the greenway at 26th around 6:00, should be up at the Little Red Lighthouse sometime around 7:00.

hey guys im new to biking so i was wondering whats the avg speed you guys normally do? my cyclometer is coming in soon so ill be able to tell if im fast enough to keep up with you guys in future rides.

drafters65 - heya! We don't go that fast (12-14ish) and I'm getting over a cold so I'm not nearly 100%. We may hammer as it gets close to wherever we're going (like the last mile or so) we're not racing, just enjoying the scenery and night.

What's better for everyone - Tuesday or Wednesday? Supposed to be 10 degrees cooler on Wednesday...

Destination either Dinosaur BBQ or Nathan's out in Coney Island - haven't done that ride in awhile and by golly it's beach weather!

Dinosaur BBQ is up at 125th on the west side, right where the bike path goes on the street between 125th and 135th. Best beef brisket I've every had. Outdoor benches.

Let's call it Wednesday, mentioned to a few others and they could do Wed too.

I'd love to join you guys, but I'm currently doing the Times Up! bicycle classes on Tuesdays and I have a dinner engagement on Wednesday. Too bad, though, Dinosaur BBQ is right on my way home (to Inwood). Maybe next week?

Sure thing! I know that next week I can't do Tuesday so it'll probably be Wed again.

Those are great by the way - I swing by every once in a while (though either Wednesdays or Thursdays).

Damn it. I don't think we can make it this week. Jackie just started her new job so she won't be riding in. I need to go to my tailor for a fitting after work tomorrow. That means I need to stay dressed up after work and I can't ride in either.

I suggest meeting a Chelsea Pier restroom (23rd St) at 630-7. I will not be joining you for dinner since I have to get home in Brooklyn at a reasonable hour. But a ride to the lighthouse and drop you guys at 125th st is reasonable and I'll ride home from there.

Where is this rabble meeting? 36th and 6th avenue is a crap place to meet for me! No offense!

Only another father of three-year-old twins could know how little that matters in comparison to ACTUALLY GOING FOR A RIDE AT NIGHT WITH SOME OTHER GUYS!

Seriously. I had a great time. And I didn't know about that 155th Street entrance to the greenway.

Yeah, it's a little hard to find. Across from the gas station where we stopped is the entrance to the greenway along the east river - one of my favorite spots at night with a group. At the bottom of the hill before that entrance is very dicey though - pretty hard to find especially at night if you don't know where it is. Promise I'll show ya next time!

The entrance we took at 155th was a perfect place for an ambush. We could've run over dead bodies and not known it.

I actually scanned it with my light before going in just to see if anyone was there.

If people aren't afraid of a 30% chance of rain I'm in. Might even bring my monstrous full size this time. :o

I have been freelancing during evenings so depends on if projects run long. Pencil me in for tomorrow or thursday.

I might be in for Tomorrow. I need to take a break tonight though. My legs are beat.

How's next Tuesday for everyone? Can make it a recovery ride from Saturday for all those that are going ;) I'm going out for birthday drinks on Wednesday (I'll post details when I make them :) ), thought about combining the two but would probably make for too tight a night.

I'm going to try to get some more miles in tonight, and then ease off on Thursday and Friday in preparation for Saturday. (I also just put a B17 on the bike this morning, and I'd like to put some more miles on that before Saturday as well.)

Not positive I can do tonight, but if anybody's interested, let me know. I live right above the Little Red Lighthouse, so I'd be starting from there. Not going for speed--just fun and keeping the knees from rusting out.

Eight miles this morning. So far I love it.

The bike shop where I bought it couldn't be bothered to find their stock of Proofide, so I need to get some pretty quick. Hopefully there's a place near work that's got it.
