Introductions - Total Newbie

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi everyone!
I'm a total newbie both to the forum and to road biking. I got into mountain biking a few years ago and loved it, but decided it was time for something new. I'm a 27 year old woman and would love to hear any tips or tricks that anyone could pass my way!
Thanks,
Elizabeth

Welcome, Ignoble32!
I'm also fairly "new" to road cycling, coming back to it after 20 years. I've been lurking around a lot on BF, and you're gonna find so much information in these forums. It's almost as addictive as riding! :p
I suggest the following reading:
From the Road Cycling forum:
Best Roadie Tips and Tricks: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=248654
From TeamEstrogen:
http://www.teamestrogen.com/articles/asa_trackstand.asp; http://www.teamestrogen.com/articles/default.asp; and
http://forums.teamestrogen.com/ (in particular, under "Gear and Accessories," read the two threads on "Favorite Saddles" :) and "Most Hated Saddles."
Check out the Regional Discussions forum to see who's riding in your area, and where all the organized group rides are.
If I think of anything else that I found useful, I'll shoot it to you.
Hope you'll soon become an addicted roadie like so many of us! Happy riding! :)
Welcome! I don't have any tips for you other than to enjoy yourself and keep riding. :) I started out a newbie (transitioned from the sport of couch potato-ing) 16 months ago. An estimated 5000 miles later, I still absolutely love it.

Thanks for all the support! I'm excited to really get into it, though it's been really cold (well, California cold!) the last couple of days and I'm taking finals for grad school, which is slowing me down a bit.
My ex-boyfriend built my mountain bike and it's a Russian titanium frame. Truth be told, I don't know that much about it except that it's really light and it's awesome. My road bike is a '07 Giant OCRCW and so far I love it. It's a great ride. And as for a helmet--I wouldn't do it any other way!
