Looking for some possible interest in a final longish ride before the Dec. 10 Burrito and possibly Dec. 17 ride. I don't feel like going all the way to OC as I'll probably be in enough trouble going on yet another long ride before the century.

I was hoping to get at least 70 miles and do the Palos Verdes loop. Some nasty climbs should help shake the cobwebs out. MrDick expressed some possible interest for this Sunday. I'm also looking in Dial_Tone's general direction.

Details:
Sunday December 3rd
Start Time 7:00 AM
Distance: 70-80 miles depending
Climbing: 4300 ft.
RouteSlip: Gmap Pedometer (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=568336)
Official RouteSlip.com version (http://www.routeslip.com/map.php?map=15666)

Meet at Malaga Cove Fountain area
South on Palos Verdes West
Climb up Hawthorne -> Crest
East on Palos Verdes North
Climb South on Palos Verdes East
Fun Descent - then Palos Verdes South (heading back West)
Another hellacious climb up Hawthorne (North)
Then to get in the easy miles -- we take the annoyingly crowded bike path all the way up to Marina Del Rey and back
South on Palos Verdes West for the return trip (we can call it quits here)
OR
Continue on to Palos Verdes drive west -> palos verdes drive south
One final killer climb up Palos Verdes Drive East (south to north this time)
Then loop back around to the starting point

These climbs are tough for me since i pretty much just commute on flat terrain every day.

I am in! I will do the "Team Wheaties " ride on Saturday. Mr.Dick and yourself are fun to ride with. I don't mind driving up there to meet up with you kids. Please post the starting points (or Routeslip) as soon as you have a chance.

Yeah, the routeslip is more for general route and figuring out how to get to 70 miles. You're the native, so I'll go with your suggestions. (in the past i've parked off some side streets on Palos Verdes Drive N near Narbonne)

dang the actual route is kinda hardcore... doing Hawthorne twice!? but that sounds like a really challenging ride.

ill do the planned routeslip. but an easy place to meet is Malaga Cove. ya cant miss the big Poseidon statue and fountain on the left. if theres that art expo thingy in the parking lot, just meet across the street from the Police/Fire Station, where the small park and flag pole are.

Not a problem. That's why the ride was labeled for South Bay riders only. I don't even know why we're letting octico join us...

It looks like a great place to ride we will have to plan this again. I want to try some new areas, seeing I have ridden most of the OC at least twice.

Thanks for the heads up. Glad I checked one last time. Not too bad in Carson for some reason, but much worse along the coastal areas.

Def. have to resched. this ride. I hope the Burrito is still on -- looks like rain that day.

I'm going to try and man up and do the San Gabriel river trail. For some reason LB and inland looks more do-able. I'll see when I get there...

Wow......I commuted to work on my bike today from near downtown LA to Hollywood. Left my house at 7am and not a breeze. It is still absolutely calm here in Hollywood. Funny, we don't get much wind here at all. But just over the hill in the valley is another story....

So I did the Long Beach Trail/San Gabriel River Trail. Nothing too bad. The headweads heading north were bad for the last 5 miles on the Long Beach Trail, but other than that, a fairly easy 60 miles.
