I need to change my Shimano Deore brake pads soon. I was thinking of trying out the Kool Stop brakes. Went to the Kool Stop website to check out the goods. Now, I'm confused.....which brake pads should I get for my Deore brake set-up (which are V-brakes, right?)? Better to get the whole pad assembly, which, according to my research, would be the threaded type? Or do I just get inserts (or is that at all possible)?

well take a quick look at the pads you have on your bike currently, that will tell you which you need

-If the pads are all rubber, with the stud coming out of the back of them, then you need whole new pad assemblys (you are correct, they are threaded)
-If you have little metal pieces with slivers of pad set into them, you have cartridge pads and can just get new cartridges

my bet is that you just need whole new pads, if you buy some cartridge assemblies you can just change pads by ordering new cartridges from now on if you want to (i did that to the front Vs i used to have...)

I'd go the cheapest route, myself. So, if you can just replace an insert, do it that way.

Assuming that I will get a whole brake pad assembly (I suppose that would mean the brake shoes), so that I can go this route in the future, I am still at a loss as to what particular item to get. Can I just get a pair of those Kool Stop brake shoes for as long as their for V-brakes and they are threaded, and assume they will fit as replacements? My problem is that there are so many models of Kool Stop to choose from, and I wouldn't know where to begin.
