Bicycle Mechanics - Clicking sound

my chain clicks
waht does that mean

Could you be more specific, where on the bike is the clicking coming from? I know you say the chain, but is it everywhere? Just on the front chainrings, on the rear? Does the clicking depend on what gear you are in?

When trying to diagnose problems you should err on giving too much information rather than too little.

it is in the front chain rings
when i am in third in hits the near side of the derailer
when iam in 2nd it hits the far side of it
i just cant seem to get the perfect adjustment

Do you only hear the noise when pedalling or do you here it when coasting but not pedalling? Nearly every multi-speed bike nowadays will produce a clicking sound when coasting when not pedalling due to the pawls in the ?freewheel? moving over each other when not engaging(a good thing when you are coasting). If the clicking noise is coming from the chain knocking against the front derrailleur when you pedal, visiting a site like www.sheldonbrown.com for info on how to properly adjust the derailleur will help. Do you mean that the chain is skipping cogs in the back? Visiting the same site will also help you adjust the rear derailleur correctly. Does it only make the noise when you are on the bike riding or when it is on a repair stand(back tire off the ground) as well? We would be able to help you more with this information.
