Which seat post should I get for my kid - a Cannondale Coda, Thompson Elite, or American Classic Ti? The post is a 27.2 mm - but how long should it be? He's 5'10 3/4" & growing....

He races XC, and is collecting parts for his new Salsa Moto Rapido (LG) frame (ETA 1/07) - so far he's got a lefty carbon DLR2 fork, control tech bars & stem, new wheels (naturally!), a new seat, and he will transfer his hyrdo brakes, XTR stuff, and Race Face Evolve cranks.

Please advise me, oh MTB Gurus!!

Seatpost really depends on the frame. Of the three, I'd say Thomson every time. It's just the best there is. A tried and true design, and bulletproof.

If the frame is small with a small seat tube, you'll need a fairly long seatpost. You want the saddle to at least be level with the bars, but since he races, he probably knows what his setup is and can give you a fairly good ballpark as to the length of the post.

this youngster will inevitably decide that he needs a really expensive seat post, so I've made an executive decision to keep him out of the loop on this one... whatever he ends up with will most assuredly get used!
