Its gotten to be a problem in years past from what I've heard. Much slower riders, and a lot of them, getting in the way of the tandems and super fast 100mi riders. I don't know what they really plan to do (if anything), but I can certainly see it being a safety issue. Not so much for experienced riders who want to beat the rush and can ride the pace, but the hundred or so others.

(bolded and enlarged the font on the Sat morning meeting plan for the BF group... check it if you are interested on the previous page)

Cuda2,

I agree that those who jump the gun (called the dispicable name of "SOONERS" in Oklahoma) are a problem. Pace lines overtake them at high speeds. If the guys in the middle of the pace lines veer even a little out of the line during the first twenty miles or so, they never see the slow riders until it is too late to avoid them. Ugly!

Cuda, I'll borrow my wife's cell and give you a call. We are staying at the Crown and will be much nearer the start than 15th and Austin. My daughter and her boyfriend are ready and we woulld like to ride with you guys at least for a while. It's inevitable that one group of us will be faster or slower than others. Even 1-2 mph difference in comfort level makes a difference after a while. Separating naturally after a while is no problem.

I'll be on a white '69 U08 and probably wearing a red and white Swiss National Champion Phonak jersey. Red with a white cross. (Unfortunately, I stretch it a bit from the inside!)

Anyone hear from Spinbackle? He's a forum member from Wichita Falls who rides with his elementary aged son. Met them last year at the start and then learned later reading this forum, that he was a member here. He posted some cool pics.

Allright, I have to learn about local custom.

Here in Phoenix, a rain shower would be a blessing! Riders would probably get naked and do a dance with the bike. In TX, I don't know whether rain gear is in order. I don't even know what 30% chance means, the local weather is so unpredictable the weatherman hides after his broadcast

Lizard,

When it rains here, it is STILL warm. No rain gear needed. After ten miles, I'm so wet from sweat I can't tell if it's raining or not except by looking through my sweat-filled sunglasses to see the road surface.

As to naked, we are in the Bible Belt. We would look with disdain at such a display, BUT, we'd look!:D

Well, it depends... depends on what we were seeing when we looked. Then we might turn away or we might look some more. :D

BTW, first post by me (been reading for a little while). I'll be at the HHH with a couple other guys from work. We'll all probably be in Brinks jerseys (blue with an armored truck). I'm hoping to put in a sub five hour century. Hope to meet some of you guys out there!

Tick-tock, tick-tock! It is almost ride time. Coming in from Austin on Friday to check out the crits and hopefully meet up with the BF group. Only crappy part is my hotel is an hour away, but who cares, I am riding and that is all that matters. See you guys soon.

Quick question here. As a rookie to this ride I don't know the logistics. What time would you say I need to be out at the ride area so I can get a parking spot within an ok distance to the start?

FYI...... Baymont Inn and Suites opens Friday and will begin taking reservations Thurdsay Aug. 23, 2007 at 5pm
Address: 4510 Kell BLVD
Reservation Number: 940 691-7500 after 5pm on Thursday
The owner, Sonny Kurani has had crews working 7 days a week to open by HHH. If you get a room, say thanks!
There has been a lot of hotel mania this year, but the Baymont Inn and Suites may make it all sane again.

I've gotten there at around 5:30 - 6:00 and made it to the start on time, but expect a lot of traffic backed up on the interstate. I'm shooting for arriving about 5:30 this year, just so there are no surprises.

Is there a consensus as to the time to be on the street from where the start happens? I got lucky and my hotel is less than a mile from start.

FYI - anyone looking for a room:

Two hotels have just opened up - a Holiday Inn (940-761-6000) that had flood damage and a brand new Baymont (940-691-7500). Both are awaiting final inspections (presumably from city inspectors?) but are accepting names on a waiting list.

This info came from the nice folks at the Chamber of Commerce around 11:00am today 8/22. My reservation, made in December, was "lost" when the Days Inn was sold to another chain so I've been hunting for another room.

Anyone sees a Habanero Ti 'cross frame - that's me. I'd like to meet up for the 100 mile group but will be riding with my SO (i.e. slow!) until she takes the 100k split.

It depends on how near the front of the pack that you want to start. 5:45 will get you at pretty much the front. 6:45 gets you toward the back. I usually try to be there about 6:00.

Since I am registered to roll out in group 1, I am hoping 6 am will get me where I need to be. As far as parking goes, what time do you think is a good time to be there by so you can park somewhere near the route?

For the 18avg group (100k or otherwise) that want to start out together. How about we meet at the corner of 15th and Austin (see map here: http://www.hh100.org/images/stories/PDFs/sitemap2007.pdf) and head to the start line together. Ride starts at 7am, and the start line will fill up quick. I plan to arrive by around 6:15 to do final prep.

Cuda, did you really mean "15th" street? That seems to be quite a few blocks away from the start.

Not sure where I'll end up but I'll be in the USAF Cycling Team kit on a silver Specialized Roubaix.

I'm going to try to be in the front of the 2nd 100mile group start....I'll be with at least one other rider(probably a few more) and we won't be flying, but at a nice brisk steady pace(especially at the start)...we plan on bypassing the first 2 rest stops to get in front of the throngs(but we'll see how it goes)...I'll pm you my cell number and you can call me tommorrow if you want..I'll be in the car from about 1pm to 4pm and then at the trade show and spaghetti dinner....if this sounds good to anyone else...please feel free to PM me as well.

Just picked up my packet. The shirts look okay. There are some girls from United Pro Cycling Team (not riders, just model-types) walking around giving away some very cool looking cowbells and all they require is a little personal info (no, not your phone number, dummy). There are a few other freebies (pickle juice, pieces of Clif bars, etc...). Crits start at 5:00 PM Friday and they are set up to sell draft beer in the hallway outside the consumer show (they've had Shiner in the past). Give my friends at the Texoma Cycling Center booth a look (gels for $.99).

Will G - gah, typeo meant 5th street, a few blocks from the start, at the back side of one of the parking lots. That way we can meet away from the other 9+ thousand other people and head to the starting line together.

I am leaving work at 2pm tomorrow, if anyone wants to trade cell phone numbers before then please PM me before then. At the ride, I should be fairly easy to spot on the red steel Serotta with Campagnolo. I will be in a white Canari jersey with black / yellow sleeves.

My average is 15-16 mph if there is wind or hills, so if your SO would like to meet up with me that would be cool. We will be coming in about 7pm or less Friday night and staying at the Crescent Plaza on Scott. I understand it's on the same street as the start but just 2 blocks away. We will be leaving Sunday so would also like to meet up with some fellow "like to ride the bikes but still regular people" on Saturday night for a few brews and maybe some not so good for you food. You can pm me if you like and we can exchange contact info.

Cuda2k,

5th and Austin is more like it. We might well see you there. White Peugeot with 50ish guy with a too tight red Phonak jersey. Not pretty, but my friends can find me in the crush of the first twenty miles.

I'll be looking for a yellow and black bumble bee of a guy near a red Italian bike!

Red Camaro: The Iron Horse is probably where we will go. It's within walking distance a few blocks south of the Expo area. Cover charge after 10 or so. Lots of good beers on tap. That was last year. Who knows now?

I turned in a great ride despite 5 hours of sleep and shoddy pre-ride nutrition. I ended up doing about 70 miles of the ride solo, since every good paceline I came across were well prepared (7 water bottles a piece) and I had to refuel about 4 times. The headwind was a real demoralizer at the end, but the thought of breaking 5 hours was too great. I went over by 8 minutes, but the deadness in my legs tells me I gave everything I could.

Does anyone know if the timing chip system ranks you against others in your age group? Will the site be updated with this info or was I supposed to stick around? Also I noticed about 5 photographers along the way, are they all freelance or will their work be on the site too?
