In case you haven't checked lately, the HH100 (http://www.hh100.org)date has been set for 2007...Aug 25th. This is an annual event held in Wichita Falls, TX.

As the un-official BF organizer, I thought I'd share the list of BF members who have expressed interest in doing the HH100 this year in order to keep the list up to date. Please look it over and let me know if you are missing and would like to be added, or if you want off! Additionally, it would be helpful if you could PM me your location (city/state) and your e-mail as an alternative method for staying in touch.

Last year my ride buddy and I stayed at a private residence and had the opportunity to meet cuda2k and lecterman, who coincidentally ended up at the same place. It was great to put names and faces together!

For 2007, I've done some thinking about how we might bring the BF riders together at the event. On thought was to gather either at or after the spaghetti feed. We could try to pull off our own pre-ride dinner (although the 2006 dinner was pretty good). Alternatively (or additionally?), a post ride event (dinner?) might be fun.

We might also consider establishing a rally point the morning of the ride and possibly try to get a few folks to carve out a spot near the front of the pack so that we can all ride out together and not have to spend much time walking!

Finally...I've thought about looking into an RV rental for our trip up from Austin, which could be cost effective for a group and provide a rally point but I haven't done much investigation on this front.

All suggestions/ideas are welcome!

So...here's who's on the list so far. By the way...my interpretation of "interest in the HH100" was pretty liberal. Even "I'm thinking about doing it" qualified!

I don't feel like digging through. Where (City/State) is this ride?

The HHH is centered in Wichita Falls, Texas.

digging through? unless don edited the post, the city/state is on the first line of the thread's OP.

You can likely strike lecterman from the list. He's relocated to NH.

Yes...I did edit the post to include the location. I guess I'm supposed to put *edit* or something like that around the new info so I don't make other people look dumb. Oh well...

I thought I'd leave lecterman on the list so that he can live vicariously through us. And who knows...maybe it'll coincide with a visit to the area....cuz...you know...it's so much nicer in Wichita Falls in August than it is in New Hampshire!

Can you put a plus 1 beside my name...my girlfriend will be with me....also it might be nice to note who will be riding the 100 miles....

We both plan too do the 100 miles

On a side note...for anyone that has ridden it have you ever stopped at the machine shop at say like mile 97...they have free beer and food....nice people...I have stopped twice and they write down everyones names on a sheet and compair it to last years list....?

I was reading on the event webiste, is there really ten thousand people that show up for this thing? I'm interested in going, but it is hard to commit this far out.

yea....it is a mass start as well..something I believe everyone should see at some point and time...

10k+. I think the highest number I saw on someone's back last year was in the 11500 range or something like that. I 'walked' the first about quarter mile then the front of the pack had picked up enough speed that I was able to ride. It's an amazing thing to behold to be sure!

I believe there were over 12K registered last year...it is a huge event....I can't wait...and I plan on doing all 100.

Last year was my first HH100 and first century so there was no way I going to jeopardize it. Now that I know that it was pretty flat from that point on (except for that dam overpass you had to climb in the last mile) it might be good to have a final rest stop.

I remember riding past it thinking there was no way I was going to get off my bike until the finish line. Additionally, the thought of a beer at that point was completely unappealing.

I'm in. Looking forward to it. Front or back of the pack, it's the same distance.Don't have anything solid in mind, but i'm open.

I did the 100k last year. I'm going to aim for the century this year, but its going to depend on the weather. I was pretty much completely 'done' by the end of the metric last year due to the heat. I'll likely have to drive back to Dallas afterwards like I did this past year so some energy reserves is probably going to be required.

Back of the pack may not end up being the same distance. This past year they closed "Hell's Gate" earlier than normal because the temps had risen so fast. There were plenty of upset riders that weren't allowed to do their century. In "normal" years, Hell's Gate closes at 12:00 . 2006 it closed at 11:30. *edit* oops...I tried to include some calcs on the pace you had to ride and the impact of an early close, but I butchered it so badly that I just yanked it out! */edit*

Is there any reasonable chance of getting a hotel room in town? I know Wichita Falls isn't that big.

dstrong
12-02-06, 12:25 PM
You can get a hotel room if you reserve soon. Just check Orbitz. They also have a pretty good size listing of hotels on the HH100 website and say that 4 new hotels are being built and will be open.

Seven of us from Houston have already put money down on several hotel rooms. We did it last year and had a blast.

It look like you have me on the list: "Houston_Biker"

I would suggest we set a couple meet up spots. We had a good time last year at a couple of bars following the ride. We went to what appeared to be a cross between a biker bar and dance bar. Lot's of interesting characters! A good way to relax following a hard ride.

More details as we get closer to the ride.

I may do the HHH for the first time in 2007. I will probably bring it up to some of my cycling buddies this week to see what their plans are for it. If my normal cycling buddies go or if my cycling club is going to organize something for the HHH I will go. I know some of my club members go regularly so I may bring it up on that forum. If I do it, I would like to be part of an organized group/club that is going to stick together and work together. If I go in 2007 I will be doing the century.

Have a friend in DFW who is about to get a road bike -- his goal being HHH next year. I told him, "buy the bike, I'll make the trip." So yeah, if he buys one, looks like I'm in. Whee!!

SuperDex - get him on BF's and we'll be sure he's ready for the ride. :)

Don't know if it still is but hotel rooms were a three night minimum (and at those rates were VERY pricey).

Wife and I did 100K on a tandem (and will do so again this year) and we saw numbers near 13K and yes, the mass start is incredible.

Well to my surprise I was able to book a room at a motel in town for the weekend. I have talked with a couple of co-workers who ride and seem to up for the challenge and adventure also. I'll watch for the event registration to open and then get registered. I'm excitied about this, it should prove to be very interesting.

I'll be there and would love to meet you guys after the ride/race. I've done it for the last 3 years and its awesome with amazing support. People sit in their front yards and spray mist in the air with their garden hoses and believe me, its well welcomed. Cuda, you'll have to take lots of pics so you can post them after the ride.

if you're thinking of going to the HHH, you better act quick....there are virtually NO rooms left and even the new hotels that aren't built yet are sold out.

When I did a mapquest location for the hotel I booked I discovered it is downtown at 12th and Broadway. And after looking at last year's route map it is just a few blocks from where they start. I guess I got lucky.

Most of the hotels that are close to the start (within a few miles) are, I think, already taken. I was looking for just one room in the downtown last week and couldn not find it.

I might be up for this also, although for the last few years I've been riding the couch more than I've been riding a bike. The last time I rode there I went down in the Road Race and broke my shoulder blade. That was in the late 80's so I guess I'm ready to do battle with the road again.

h2o - welcome to BikeForums! This year will be my second year at HHH. I'll probably wait a few months (ie probably about July) before I register. Far too many variables between now and then.

We always stay at the Town and Country. It is not stellar but they have always been accommodating and it is close.

We will be there...we have a standing reservation for a bunch of rooms for the group I ride with. When it is closer we usually have cancels.....I will post up here for sure if that is the case....
