Are "old bikes wanted" ads in the bikes for sale section of Craig's List something you like to see?

They annoy me for some reason... I'm thinking "Yeah buddy everyone wants old bikes cheep or free" and if a 59cm track bike was posted to the list there would be 50 emails before the days end enquiring, but I guess it is a good way to find bikes that would otherwise not be advertised (Kurts recent catch as an example).

I posted an ad in the items wanted section asking for bikes and parts for some projects. I got responses from 4 people. a couple with some junk kids bikes and one guy who is a scrapper and said he doesn't pick them up cause they take too much space in his little pickup. couple emails later, I'm getting all the bikes he finds for $2 each. some junk, some good and a few gems every once in a while. I would never sell a kids bike because there are too many kids that need them. I give them away or drop them at the salvation army. Most just need air in the tires and chains lubed. some are run over but have good tires and grips so I combine parts.
the trick is to not burn bridges and find a way to pass on what you won't use. my problem is I'm come across too many things that I say "I'm gonna use this" and I don't. but I guess having some old Schwinns around to admire and borrow parts from is better than letting them rust in the dump.
You may see a lot of Huffys before you get a decent Miyata like me, or you might get lucky on the first try.

A Boston-area bike buddy runs them on CL fairly often and usually gets pretty good results. He's usually pretty specific, however, in terms of the kinds of bikes he's seeking. He scored a near NOS Raleigh 20 for $100 that way.
