Hey folks,
I'm looking for a route by bike from Portland to Corvallis.
Any tips would be appreciated.
Also, do you think the weather will allow such a trip in mid to late January?

Weather is a tough call. Might be fine or might be raining hard. Fenders will help a lot. As for the route, here's a link to a bike route through the Willamette Valley:

There's several ways from Portland to Champoeg... but they primarily funnel towards either Stafford Road and the Canby Ferry or 99W from Sherwood to Newberg and OR-219 over the Willamette River.
If you are on the east side of Portland you can also ride from Oregon City on highway 213 to Silverton, then take 214 to Stayton, Stayton - Scio Rd to Scio then Cradtree, into Albany. From the Albany Amtrak station take Queens way to Riverside Drive. This comes out on highway 34, 1 mile west to Corvallis. If it's good weather ride fast and start early.
Thanks for your replies. I appreciate you folks spending the time to help me out.
I've followed Shifty's route on google maps and it looks good. The other seems doable too.
I don't mind rain; I just don't want to ride in snow...
Snow is possible...but pretty unliklely. Rain and limited daylight will be the main challenges. Let us know how it goes.
Thanks for your replies.

Cars can't see you as well in the rain, be careful and where bright yellow! Go on Sunday morning, much less traffic.

That's a nice route, however in January the ferry at Willamette Mission does not operate, you'll need to ride into Salem and cross the river over the bridge there, then on to Independence.

Alex, I looked at this route yesterday. It is the best one I have seen and I have always wanted to do it.
4000 elevation, how hard are the climbs?

Hello, I ride Forest Grove to Corvallis often, enjoy it, Don't know Portland but if you can get to McMinnville just head south to Corvallis, the winds can be a crap shoot this time of year, but they will probably be in your face.
