Mountain Biking - difference between old bike and new bike

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I had to bring my old bike home from the LBS today. Holy !!!! What a difference riding that bike after being on my Brodie for the last two weeks. It was so weird not to have the disk brakes and this crappy bike rattled over every single bump in the road. I am not sure how I put up with it for so long but I guess I didn't really have anything to compare it too. Makes me realize that I really did make a good decision to get this new bike!
I just wondered - how many people here have two bikes ? One which is kind of a scrapper/get around bike and the second which you spent alot of money on and really enjoy riding ?

Justen, I just built up a bike as a beater, some wheels/ frame bar and stem were just lying in the basement.
Right now, it rides nicely, but man does it need better brake levers!!
My good bike, I love!! :D
I love your nick - scooby snax - cool :-)
I guess it's a good idea to have a beater bike. There is no way I would want to leave my good bike on a rack anywhere.
Still, it was just so weird to use my old bike. The Brodie is so much more rugged :-)

I agree i do the same, build up bikes and ride them.when you hop on a different bike from your origanal it seems a little weirdfeeling to me.with out my hard tale.what would i do? It brings them all home.
I have my '99 Specialized Hardrock Comp FS that I use as my commuter / road miles bike. I sometimes will throw the Crossroads tires for those rides where my better half can't make up her mind. My "good" bike is the 03 Rockhopper FSR comp that I think you alrady know about.
I still have my old rigid which I saved up for in the 8th grade. I guess that makes me a pack rat. Its fun to ride it every now and then just to remember what it was like before I was introduced to suspension. One of the advantages to being terribly short I suppose.

Wrong, wrong, wrong, it goes; Give a man a fish and you'll feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll sit in a boat all day, drinking beer and telling lies.

lol,i got that from a book store on a poster. i like yours is cooler though.
Sure I still keep my old bike around, it's great for days when I have to lock up somewhere, or on salty winter roads.
Preparare to be amazed with its mind blowing componentry! ;)
- threaded headset!
- 5 speed Tourney rear derailer
- 5 speed Tourney "friction" shifter
- rear plastic centre pull brake (ugraded the front to a $10 V)
- steel everything, bar, stem, crank, etc
Even though it is a huge POS (that weighs about 35 lbs) I still have fun riding it around town! Plus I never worry about it, if it gets stollen who the hell cares!
