If I have a fork with mounts/posts for a u-brake can I use the arms from a center-pull brake, like Mafac Racer for instance (after removing them from the center mount of course)? In other words, are the posts for these two types of brakes the same distance above the rim and otherwise physically the same?
U-brake studs are about 1mm larger in diameter than center-pull Mafac studs. They are also spaced about 20mm further apart. Lastly there is no anchor hole for the spring on U-brake studs. having said all that, you might be able to perform some sugery to make things fit, but the braking perforamnce and reliability would certainly be comprised.
