Forum Suggestions & User Assistance - Newbie Script?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Would it be possible to script a noob to have him/her to post a first post to Introductions?...or maybe an automated post to Introductions on the noobs behalf?

We already do that.
Usually a new member will post something in the Introductions forum.
Too often a new member will register, read a few posts, and then disappear. :(

As it is right now, the Welcome Team (r) personally PM's each new member with a welcome message. We usually remind them of the guidelines, and ask them to introduce themselves.
How about making people fill out thier profiles with a script that won't allow them to post until they did? I think that would cut down on the "register and run" members as they'd actually have to spend an extra thirty seconds putting in some info.

Hmm, what should we have as a required field? The only one i would really like to see, is location.
Location, >AGE<, heck make the whole works required. the pic isn't a big deal but the rest would give us an idea of who we are talking to and what to expect.

Yeah...that's the idea. I think if someone registers - then starts getting immediate feedback from other forum members via the Introductions forum...they'll have a greater tendancy to stick around.

Hmm, so rather then have a thread started in the Welcome Team forum; have it started in the introductions forum, so everyone can welcome the user publicly?

"First we'll register the cyclists, then we'll move on to the rest of the world." AH
I think it should be something that encouraged and not forced.

Raiyn and 1oldRoadie,
When a new member is welcomed we ask them to fill in the profile information (if they feel so inclined) and ask them to tell us about themselves, their bikes, and where they ride when they introduce themselves.
