Is there anything wrong with powder coating V-Brake rims? I was thinking of doing that with my mtb rims, but my dad says no, the paint will come off. Powder coating is way more stronger than any other kinds of paint, so I don't think that it will come off.
Who has powder coated their rims, and how many KV did you powder coat them at?
Thanks, Max

Why don't you instead strip the anodizing or whatever that's on there now and polish the rims? Polished rims are hot.

Better yet just build one of these rims unless the color that is posted is not to your liking.

don't think you can powdercoat rims, they have to heat them up as they apply the powdercoating which might warp the aluminum as it is thin. also you wouldn't want to get any on the bead so that the tire wouldn't seat right, but i'm just guessing as i've never heard or seen anyone do it.

It could be done, but it's really not worth it. You wouldn't want to use the painted surface for braking, so you'd have to have the rims coated, and then grind off the coating on the braking surface. Anodizing is a lot stronger than powder coating and brake pads eventually wear away anodized braking surfaces. If you want a radical color, then powder coating would be fine, but anodizing would be better and there are plenty of places around here (LA'ish) that anodize aluminum parts. I've had some RC car/truck parts done before I developed a fetish for stripping and polishing AL.

Plus powder coating is HEAVY. why add all that weight w/ no strength benefit?

Thanks.
I don't really care about weight that much.
I was thinking of the paint all wearing off, but I'm not sure if there is any kind of clear coating that will protect them from that kind of use.

Oh. In that case mask off the brake surfaces and use Krylon spray clear coat.
