I know many of you do not have kids and other don't have kids old enough to do long rides. Our family has been doing the Tour de Palm Springs since it started. Now I would like our community to join us. If you are interested post here. We (son, wife and I) are going to do the 25 mile bike ride. I normally do the 55 mile ride and my son does the 25 mile ride, I race him (kinda) to the finish line, but this year I am going to accompany him.

I LOVE that pic of you and your son together... it is the best! I hope you have it framed somewhere :p

I'm planning on doing the century and spending the whole weekend in Palm Springs... maybe checking out the goat trails the next day on the mtn bike...

Looking forward to seeing you and your family!!

there is also a century.... which is what the majority of people on this forum will be interested in but beware... if you do not like "suburbia" riding with lots of traffic and lots of left turns... this ride is not for you! about 1/2 of the route is suburbia... and airport road in indio is the WORST road i've ever ridden on! (you only get as far as indio if you ride the century.... the others all cut over sooner)

there are usually well over 8000 riders altogether for this ride! i'm curious where everyone is going to park now that they've moved it downtown????? i've done it the last 2 years (as i've only been riding 2 years)

MarkAJ and I are registered.....we are doing the century.....
Yeah Cali...I wondered the same thing about parking....I would hope they have this planned out!
As for suburbia riding...living in the valley, we are very used to it...and its why we always wear whistles when we ride...I like the more remote rides...JT, stagecoach...but they cant always be that way....

the goat trails are a blast and go on and on and on and on and on..... all circling around and just way cool..... however.... the only way into the goat trails is a huge and STEEP hill (i'll post our motionbased from today after i upload it..... after i upload it)

each time we go.... we find more and more and different trails.... someday we may actually see it all!

a lot more suburbia cuz you go a lot further out.... the first part is pretty much the same... dillon... but once you cross over and head back.... through indio... la quinta... cathedral city... it's traffic... LIGHTS and suburbia.... i ONLY mentioned that cuz i know a lot of riders don't like that..... i do it cuz it's a fun ride and the ONLY way back to the start/finish is through suburbia....

I guess I'll be walking up that first hill :p but I was thinking about how I could get over there ever since you mentioned riding them at that demo day thingy... they may be above my riding level, but then again, I've got a couple of months to practice :p

i only mentioned the suburbia cuz it seemed like a lot of the post-ride reports from last year... that was a complaint... so just want to "warn" people... or make sure they are aware....

it's still a fun ride!

I always appreciate any kind of info I can get on a ride ahead of time. I will probably get there very very early to get parking... unfortunately, my hotel is too far to ride...

I think I'll be okay w/the traffic and stuff... probably wouldn't want to have that on every ride... but I want to do this ride as a long training ride, so I'm doing it no matter what :D

My wife and I have done it for the last two years...I do the Century and she does the 55 with friends...
Last year I saw about 5 crashes...40 flat tires...Thermal was the worst part of the ride for me...freeway off and on ramps + 16 wheelers etc...plus it was Toasty last time wasn't it??
I think the secret is heavy duty touring tires, thats what I ran last year...
But yeah, we'll be there!! Hope to meet all of you!!

Okay Herb... you know me too well... but nope, I will probably not pre-drive this one.... I will check out the goat trails (by myself apparently, vmc says he doesn't want to go... :( ) ahead of time though... based on what caligurl says, they sound like fun!

So, if I get there at 4am and there's extra parking, I'll lay in the street til you get there k? :p

We have done it quite a few time the 55 mile ride is fun as long as you get up to the front. As far as suburbia riding is concerned I do it all the time (at least 3 times a week). Last year was warm , if I remember correctly it was 85 degrees. As far as parking we usually get a hotel for the weekend and ride our bikes to the start.

yeah, that would be the better way to do it! I'm staying the whole weekend so I grabbed a couple of rewards nights so I didn't have as many choices since its the busy season over there at that time

... hmmm... I'm starting to think I should just fork out the hotel fee and get one closer to the start ....
