TdSS Stage One, Revisited. ;)
Not sure of starting time yet but it definitely won't be at the crack of dawn. I'm thinking a start time around 9:30ish but probably earlier. I'll post the routeslip once I find it.
Just getting this out there to see if anyone's interested. :D
I've been wanting to redo this route, unfortunately I can't do it tomorrow :( bummer...
What is TdSS Stage one? I am a maybe.

I thought this was saved on routeslip.com but no luck finding it. I'll create one later this morning and post the link. Attached is the original turn-by-turn in a word doc.

I had no idea there would be a difference  but on my bike, it was huge! I think if you just get a SRAM, that's about the best one as far as I can tell... (not like I have a clue though... but that's the one James said too)

I don't think its the type....I think its the quality...105 - Ultegra - Dura Ace...
I changed my original 105 chain to an ultegra...but now have a Sram..
Sram and Whipperman have the gold link that lets you easly remove the chain for cleaning!
Someone please correct me if this is incorrect!

Does it matter with Campy components? Do I have to get a Campy chain?

Sorry Tiff...I keep forgetting....I spoke for the Shimano side...I really dont know...but I imagine there are grades of Campy chains as well...and possibly some third parties like Sram and Whipperman might make campy compatible chains...
Do you really need one? How many miles does this one have? Has it been checked for chain stretch?
I did mine, only because I put a new cassette on and wnated them both new...my one chain is actully fine..when they broke it I had the lbs remove a link and I added the gold link to my ultegra chain...so its a nice clean extra one just in case..

Like James mentioned, I would go with SRAM also. Their speed specific chain should be as good as Shimano or Campy. I run SRAM on both my Shimano and Campy drivetrains.

I have checked it for chain stretch. It's fine. There's actually not many miles on it. It's just old... the bike's previous owner had the bike in storage for over a year. It just needs a thorough cleaning. I'd like to have one for backup though.

Now, hang on a sec, I don't think SRAM has a 10 speed yet. If they do, I would go with SRAM as well.
I have been using this one on my Campy 10 speed

The ones with the quick links is very easy, you cannot possibly go wrong.
The ones where you have to push a pin in, it is important that you push the pin in the right amount and it doesn't bind. There are various tricks (I do the lateral bend) to work out the bind.
I need an 8 speed chain...any suggestions?

I need an 8 speed chain...any suggestions? SRAM is super easy. Just need a chain tool to shorten the chain to the correct length.
Something like a PC-58 (http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profile.cfm?SKU=6131&subcategory_ID=5134) is fine. (edit: SRAM chains are frequently on sale in store at Performance)

I guess I should point out that we'd need to be done by 1:30. The kids get out of school at 2:00.
Is that enough time to do the whole route with stops???

I have no idea. There's a possibility of us having to cut out the back bay loop...

Assuming a 9am start, and 60 mi route (?), it's do-able if the stops are kept brief (15mph avg + 30 min of stopping). Might as well give it a try, and cut it short if necessary.
I would Love to go,but I have to be back by noon.
