Im looking for a reliable and lightweight seatpost and I believe these two is my best pick, just cant decide which one :
Race Face Deus
+ cheap
+ lighter then thomson
Thomson
+ strong
+ has a proven desing
which seatpost because I cant deside?, I wonder why Thomson make their seatpsot 410mm in length instead of 400mm, it seems the extra 10mm made their seatpost to weight extra 50 grams which made it a bit more heavier and Thomson is more expensive then RaceFace. Need your help guys :D

Ive always had a soft spot in my heart for anything RaceFace.
it seems the extra 10mm made their seatpost to weight extra 50 grams
If it was true, the whole seatpost would weigh more than 2 kilos!
Go with the one you like, both are good seatposts.

Oh kay thanks, I think I choose race face because its cheaper and im not soo heavy. Anyway here is my problem, I dont know whats my saddle rail diameter, Raceface Deus seatpost only accept 7 to 8mm saddle rail diameter. Im using a 07 WTB Silverado rails and I cant find any info bout it rail length.

Rail length doesn't matter, it's rail diameter that does. Most of them are pretty standard so you should be fine.

oops did i say rail length, I mean rail diameter, sorry for the typo. Well its because RaceFace states on their installation of the saddle that its rail diameter can only accept 7 - 8mm so I dont know if mine is compatible or not.
If in doubt e-mail or call WTB and ask them the diameter.

thanks, never thought WTB website to have a contact us page, unlike Giant which I never found the URL to email them about their paint issues.

yeah, but Im talking bout weight, price and durability. I know that Thomson is the strongest comparing to RaceFace but its also more expensive and a bit more heavier and I dont want my Anthem to be any more heavier, trying to make it 13kg max.

well, Im looking for a reliable seatpost without spending too much money on, I would prefer lighter weight, that what I mean. I know that Thomson is stronger then RaceFace but its more expensive and heavier and after putting on some eggies on my Giant Anthem, it would weight almost 13kg, I dont want my bike to be heavier then 13kg
Are you racing? If not...then don't sweat a few ounces. 13kg (28.6lbs) really isn't that bad for a dually. Granted, I'd expect more than 3" of travel for a bike of that weight. My dually weighs 32.13lbs (14.5kg) as of my scales last night. I think it's fine unless I was gonna race it XC. It's be a decent Downieville'er.

well I do race occasionally, I already own a 14.5kg hardtail, I dont want my full sus to be that weight :D, no offence though, I just like light bikes, easier to carry and faster to pedal
Sell the HT and buy a really nice set of wheels...that will make a huge diff on the Anthem.

nah, Im keeping my hardtail for training and skill building :D, I dont mind crashing a USD250 bike rather then a USD1.7k bike
Come on everybody, he made a decision so let's leave it be. You all know how hard it is for him to reach a decision so let's just set back and enjoy it.

nah, I think i'll choose RaceFace, Im only 150lbs (anyone here lighter? Whats your weight LowCel, Im very interested in knowing) I choose alu over carbon because of the previous posts about a guy got carbon on his butt
During race season my weight goes from about 165 - 172 pounds. I'm hoping to have my race weight go between 160 - 165 pounds this season. During the off season my weight goes around 180 - 185 pounds.

Ain't it the truth! I'm not a racer, but I've already picked up 12 pounds since August, and the really cold weather just got here!
thomson posts have the largest clamping length of any of the posts i've seen...if you care. i think 41mm.
secondly, i have asked WTB what their rail dia. was and i believe they said 7mm. don't quote me on that.
How about one from Pricepoint. Their house brand "sette apex" is light & cheap!!
I bought one for my S.S. mountain bike, when comparing to the Thomson I have on another bike it has the same construction & weight. I'm not sure if it’s made of identical aluminum specs, so it might be a little weaker over the long run.
I weigh 200lbs and haven't had any problems. For the cost it I doubt you can find a better post.

Hehe, thankfully here in Malaysia there are no winter so its cycling for the whole year and here in Malaysia the weather is usually as hot as your summer there. And thanks for asking, I asked them yesterday and they reply in 8 hours, not bad at all and my WTB Silverado saddle is 7mm railing length, Im calling my dealer afterwards and ask them how much the price of RF Deus, lets hope its cheaper by RM50-100

Anyway just emailed RaceFace about the weight of the RF Deus Seatpost for 30.9mm because I was shocked when I check Thomson seatpost for 410mm 30.9diameter seatpost (263 grams) is lighter then its 410mm 27.2diameter seatpost (293 grams)
The RF Deus is probably lighter than 240 grams. The 31.8 x 400 weighs 240 grams. Just so you know never trust manufacturer's on what they say the weight of a component is. It is not uncommon for a component to weight 20 - 25% more than what the company claims. The best place to get your weights is from weight weenies (http://weightweenies.starbike.com/listings.php). I know I have given you this link on several occasions but maybe this time you will save it.

Yeah, I checked weight weenies already, dont have the diameter I want so I just emailed RaceFace to get the estimated weight. I keep you guys posted

41 eh?...;)
how did this go to 28 posts...thomson. No question. If you want damn good Raceface is great, but the best hands down is thomson...

yeah I agree on that Maelstrom, because im not soo heavy, Im looking towards a lighter one, so most likely it will be raceface, what I dont understand is how come a bigger diameter Thomson seatpost (30.9mm) is lighter then 27.2 diameter seatpost ?
Same reason that frames with larger tubes can be lighter. They can also be thinner.
Considering you have a 28+ pound bike I can assure you that a few grams on the seatpost is not going to make any difference in the performance of the bike. Unless you are going to do some major upgrades to lighten the bike don't worry about it. Just get the post and go ride your bike.

You must be a real treat to go to a restaurant with. "What were today's specials again?" "How many grams of fat in the salmon dish?" "Between the veal chop and the rack of lamb, which would you take?" :p

Sounds good. Just keep in mind that just because it is light doesn't mean it's as good. Cheap, Light, Quality. Pick any two.
