I am definitely in for these events this coming year. These are my top priority events for this year and I am actually training to ride these. Although they are not “races”, they are all timed events and are a bit more competitive than your typical century.

One thing to keep in mind, Breathless Agony has a small rider limit, so if you are interested in KOM you need to register early. I believe registration opens up in January.

I was hoping to get a good BF team together to ride and comepete for a place in the top 10 of the KOM series. The So Cal USCF race calendar just came out last week, and there's too many big races that conflict with the KOM dates :( I wish some of the ride organizers like Planet Ultra would offer some of their rides as sanctioned races as well as fun rides. Everest Challenge is run that way, and it seems to work well, and draw both crowds. I've read the rumors that Planet Ultra is taking over EC next year, maybe that could be the start of more ride/race formats?

That is one tough ride. The Mullholland Century itself is a difficult ride, but to double it up, that is one hard day in the saddle.

I'd consider it, but not the double-double-protein-style Extort is cooking up. That takes serious...well...anyway, I would like to be but a mere KOM achiever. Of coure, I also want Triple Crown. Can I do both in a year?:p

I definitely want another shot at BA. As for the other rides, I'd love to do them, but I probably won't manage to squeeze them in. But if time permits, we'll see...

Hey all,

I'm back in training month (after almost 2 months off the bike due to injury and my wedding - not related). And I need some cycling goals this year.

I was ready to chalk this up to just riding for the sake off but where's the fun in that.

All that being said who's doing KOM and where are your training rides at? I'm based in Culver city but am willing to drag myself (and my friend) to relatively close areas as I really need to work a lot the get back into the KOM mindset and form.

If there's a set forum or mailing list for this already please include me.

THANKS!!!

Training rides: the Santa Monica Mts are your best friend. I'm signed up for all three, even though I'm not big on organized rides -- I kind of like the idea of working for the KOM jersey. Keeps me motivated to do hill work.

These rides are "only" 100 miles so I don't think you need to worry much about the distance, assuming of course that you can already comfortably complete a century. Instead I would (and am) spend my time improving my climbing. Do both long, sustained climbs like Baldy and shorter, power climbs like those in the Santa Monica Mountains. You're close, so go practice on parts of the Mulholland route.

My training rides now include Palomar, Newport Coast, and Como Street each week. Too bad we have to chose this year between the KOM and the Triple Crown Stage Race, but I think I will focus of the Stage Race.

Ah thanks! I really hope so, I got very discourged last weekend though. I did only 40 miles but close to 6000 ft of climbing, and I was having a tough time towards the end :(
Then the next day did 50 miles with 4000 ft and felt great...go fiqure..

6K feet of climbing in 40 miles is a tough ride, Karen! Don't be down about it at all...I'd be wiped at the end. AND you turned around and did another 4K the next day. Yup, you'll do fine on the KOM! ;) I'm glad I decided not to do it this year, though. Trying for Triple Crown is enough. I'm spacing my goals out or I'm going to burn out and be forced to take up ping-pong. Hey, I wonder if there is a ping-pong forum I can go corrupt? :p :D

Is it possible to get the Cream in just a topsheet and put it on a jap, or possibly a saviga sponge? Since chinese sponges on rubbers are seemingly infinitely unpredictable. I cant tell you how much I enjoy my Globe 999t on that 2.2 mm 40 deg saviga sponge. That just plays phenominal, and actually with that particular sponge I wouldnt hesitate using that Globe side on my forehand even. Eventhough all I read was that Globe 999t was a backhand only rubber.

Karen, Santiago Cycling does not allow selling of entries. Christy is going and you can ride with her. You can always turn around on the big climb if you get too tired. The support is very good and all the other riders were friendly to me as they passed me. Be prepared for cold on the way back down.

Also you can do the worker's ride (like we did last year). Basically it's a week before the actual Breathless agony ride. You , along with whoever else signs up, ride with the organizer - Chuck Bramwell (aka the guy in the death suit) and do the exact route for scouting purposes. This is unsupported but there are a few places to refill. If you do the worker's ride you will have to help out during the actual BA.

The above mentioned ride is credited towards KOM.

Hey John!!!

Jaycee and crew have the doubles bug and I don't know if I can catch up with their level of fitness/endurance but KOM seems like a nice back up goal.

PM me you email address as I need to know what/when your training rides are.
