Ok, first of all, when/if you ever buy one of these things off Ebay, remember the 4GB is really a 1GB or 2GB, depending on what you really get. It's kind of a crap shoot. I bought two of them. One from a vender here in the states for $45 (1GB), and one from Hong Kong for $50 (2GB). They were of course both listed as 4GB, but I checked the chips, and they are of course not exactly what they say. I kind of expected this, so it was no surprise to me. So, the one got negative feedback, and the other got nuetral, because he was nice to me. The negative one denied he was a scammer, and gave me some BS excuse, blah, blah, blah. So, I razzed him for two weeks for being dishonest, until he gave me a $20 refund to make peace and get me off his back. I kept the player.
All in all, I got two cheap nano-clones for $95. What I like best is not the music, but the FM radio that comes with it. If I get bored on my ride home from work with what I have saved on it, I can just flip on the local station. I also have some pics of the better half and the kids, etc etc. In this respect, it has a few more functions than a real i-pod nano for about 1/2 the price. The sound quality is fine with a decent set of buds, and the Li-ion battery is rechargable through the USB port, or with an included charger. It lasts about 4 hours on a charge. Menu options are also very simple, and easy to use. What do you expect for $45?
I got some of those neck lanyards, and silicon rubber skins along with clear screen protectors to boot.
One pink for my wife, the other gray for me.
I'm going to put these in our stockings for Christmas. She's wanted an MP4 player for a long time. Until then, I will most assuredly listen to mine incognito while the wife is at work, and I'm at home with the kids during the day. :D

kewl - got any pics? I just bought a real nano - didn't know they had clones out there. The radio station bit would've been nice. Sound quality is pretty impressive on the real nano though.... I only got the 2gb version as its more than enough for what I use it for. I haven't been able to fill it up yet.

Hmmm - might get one of these and see how it compares. Especially if they're that cheap. If nothing else its worth it for the portable hard drive....

It also comes with some basic games when you get REALLY bored. It's got that one where you stack the little blocks.

mp4 only?
What does that mean when the most impressive part is the FM radio?

looking at a few of them I'd seriously be interested to know if they play Apple's proprietary MP4 format. I haven't found one yet that lists it in with the file formats the device supports.

What I mean, is I like this feature over what the i-pod offers, becauase I like to listen to the radio also. i-pods can't do that.

- tks for the review and heads up for those of us who may use eBay (i won't, but that's me)...
- i think we can all look forward to some great lightweight, portable music players this season... my favorites for cycling are the Sandisk Sansa M2XX-series, which feature storage, playback, and FM radio.... the bonus is that the units run for 20 hours on a replaceable AAA battery, unlike other landfill-bound players with built-in NiMH or LiIon batteries... missing on the Sandisk? - the ability to encode Line-in... meaning you cannot use the unit to create .mp3s of your favorite vinyl or cassette tunes... (no biggie for most users i guess)...
- my other all-around favorite is the iAudio (Cowan) G3, which also supports the superior .ogg encoding format... a AA powers the unit for 50 hours!

What's the easy way around it? I've tried a few programs that convert the Itunes protected format to something else, but most are a PITA and don't work all the time. That was my main motivation for getting an Ipod was to make it easy.
