Hello all,

I am new to the forum and new to biking. Live in the SF Bay area. I am a distance runner and have run a couple of marathons and am interested in expanding my horizons by doing some dualthalons and triathlons.

First things first - I need to buy a bike and would prefer to spend under $1000. A friend who is an avid biker pointed me to bikesdirect.com. I have been reading mixed reviews about the site here. As a beginner, what should I look out for while getting a bike from them. I have been familiarizing myself with the various components of a bike and the makers ( Ultegra is better than 105 which is better than Tiagra etc). I was looking at a couple of bikes on their site and was wondering if someone could provide a veteran's opinion on these.

If you have any other bikes to recommend, I am happy to listen.

Hello and welcome to the forums.

I would perform a search in the road cycling forums. Many of the bikesdirect products are discussed and I think there are very recent threads on the topic that will interest you including firsthand reports from owners.

Good luck!
