I think this is a step in the right direction, but it's kinda vague in places...

So tempting to fill it out, even the vague areas.

I got handed this in paper on my morning commute this summer. It was pretty cool, at least to feel that they care! =) Maybe a lot of people commute from the NW, I wonder. Anyhow I filled it out and mailed it in, as did others in my household.

Cool! We have a local Bike Group in town that stays on top of most of the important events. There is usually representation at most of the City Council meetings, and often 3-4 cyclists. I was at one meeting where we outnumbered all others. This does wonders. The city has recently added some new trails, bike lanes (the well-planned kind), and racks around town.

Wow... I could see this in British Columbia? But ALBERTA?!

Must be because Ralph retired.

Grrr.... Hey, Alberta rules! Also, Calgary is a fantastic, courteous city. If anything, the massive influx of non-native Calgarians in the past few years has made the city a bit less friendly, but we will convert them over! Also, this DOES in fact translate to riding on the road, this summer was my first summer road biking and all-in-all, I feel it's been a fantastic city to ride in, both road- and drivers-wise. Drivers give me a lot of space and a lot of respect, generally. Calgary also has 460km of bike paths, which is pretty nice.

PS: I'm born and raised here but it does seem like half my friends are from BC, they are always pushing my buttons with comments like that! ;o) Really I'm too easy of a target!

I'm sure Calgary is a wonderful city; it's just that, lately, Albertans seem to be a little oil drunk.

Well, I filled mine out, I think it's a great idea for the city to at least be recognizing this. I know that for some people in the NW, cycling could look like a daunting task if you're a newbie. I kinda feel bad for those folks in tuscany, rocky ridge, royal oak etc. Could you imagine even cycling just to Dalhousie Station? yikes. You couldn't even take the train during rush hour anyways, it isn't allowed.

A little? ;)

Born-and-bred Albertan, lived in Calgary since I was 4, and the attitude here gets a touch precious at times.

Where are you from, Bikepacker67? You sound like the experience might be firsthand...

Heh, when my buddy moved here from Montreal, he couldn't believe the amount of trucks here..."hey honey, foget the car, let's go buy a TRUCK." Sheesh.
I still wouldn't leave here in a million years though:)

Well, I'm from New England, but I'm currently holed up in the Okanagan region of British Columbia.
Quite a few Albertans vacation here in the summer, and they all seem to drive 8+ cylinder gargantuans.

No, really?:D Seriously though, I heard that seems to be the fastest growing area outside of calgary, at least for upscale condos, etc.
