Bicycle Mechanics - road triple and MTB triple questions

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Hello,
I have many road and MTB parts. Will MTB triple crankset fit a road bike triple and will rear and front MTB derailleurs fit road bikes?
I am assuming that cassettes are interchangeable also (9speed stuff)
Thanks,
Bill F.
I just thought about how the chainrings will not work as for as gearing goes for the cranks.

Yes it will work, have you ever heard of Cyclocross.

Touring bikes are typically fitted with MTB mechs and derailleurs, or hybrid systems. Cyclo-cross are usually fitted with low-ratio doubes, and road mechs.
There may be issues physically fitting an MTB front mech to a road bike, tube diameters vary. You need to match the curvature of the mech to the large chainwheel. My road mech works OK with an MTB chainset, but you may have problems with a small-radius MTB mech on a road triple.

mtb front mech won't work w/ road triple, and vice versa
So basically just rear cassette, chain and rear derailleur.
Thanks guys for the responses.

I've been running XT (MTB) front and rear der's on my road triple (52-42-30) for a couple of years, and they've performed flawlessly (with a 7 speed cassette).

You'll need a road BB and front derailliuer.
Rear derailleurs are a little ifffy as Shimano isn't making short cage MTB derailleurs anymore. Wouldn't recommend it unless you're using a rather large cassette for road. Maybe someone's actually tried it. My XTR short cage works great with Dura Ace, though.
