Road Bike Racing - Fuji gets back in the game.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Sponsoring Toyota United next year.
Let's see how many bandwagon Fuji riders start popping up now. :D

If you go to Fuji's homepage, there is a pic of the bike. I can't get it to save though.

Hmm Those United bikes might just be collectors items. I am guessing that company is either doing rather poorly (yea we want to sell you a $5 AL bike as the only bike in our line) or they have folded all together.

You can now purchase that $5k bike from Excelsports for around half that. It's not a bad deal now, $5k was just stupid for that bike. You could build a CAAD8 with Record for less.

The new 2007 Fuji-United Team Issue bike features a full monocoque carbon C7 frame, Shimano gruppo, and components and wheels by Bontrager
Curious... I thought only Trek's children used Bontrager kit as stock.
This whole story does surprise me though - I thought Fuji had all but died, seeing as bikes with Fuji decals were being offloaded on BikesDirect.

IIRC Toyota-United was set up so late in the game last year that they couldn't find a sponsor, or couldn't get one set up in time. That's why they had their own bikes made up. They probably went with the easier, more hassle free option, of passing the buck to Fuji.

Well looks like I was close. Fuji will build United branded bikes...the scandium frame will no longer be built.
Fuji partners with United Bicycles for 2007 Team
By Mark Zalewski, North American Editor
United Bicycles, the exclusive team brand of the Toyota-United team, announced a licensing agreement with Fuji Bicycles to make and distribute United Bicycles as well as provide the professional team with Fuji frames for 2007. "It's two deals," said Fuji's Patrick Cunnane. "It's an agreement to supply the team with bikes and an additional agreement to license the United brand. They made some attempt to sell it this year, but with our foundation we feel that we will be more successful in distributing it."
The Toyota-United team entered the 2006 season with its own brand of team bicycles that they sold on the team web site. However, the lack of wide distribution made growth potential for the bike limited, according to team owner Sean Tucker. "I never wanted to be in the bike business, I just wanted my guys to have the best bike possible. You can't sell anything in this world unless you have distribution. Patrick called us and said he was excited about the United brand and wanted to do something with it. We were looking for a distribution deal since we weren't doing great volume. So when Patrick called and offered full distribution I was all ears. We did a multi-year licensing agreement. We are making less money initially but hopefully more in the end."
The Easton scandium United frame that the team rode in 2006 will no longer be distributed, as the team will switch to Fuji's two top all-carbon models with Fuji and United co-branding. "They will ride the Team Issue and our SL1 frame which is a 14.5 pound complete bike -- two excellent carbon frames that will give the riders a choice," said Cunnane. Additionally, Fuji will manufacture and distribute an entire line of United-branded bicycles, due out in the summer as well as maintain their professional sponsorships of two women's professional teams -- Nürnberger Versicherung and TEAm Lipton.

You thought Fuji jad died because BD.com had a couple of brand new 4 year old Fuji's?
And I don't ride Bontrager, but what's wrong with them? The only reason people don't like them is because they are associated with stock parts on Treks. The new deep carbons were partially developed by Steve Hed.

Oh there's nothing wrong with them - the higher end stuff is quite good - - but I'd never seen them come as stock kit on any brand that wasn't owned by Trek.
