Is a pint going to cover a 24" road frame and fork? I know a quart is probably too much, but I could paint a bike or two more the same color to sell?,,,,BD

I'd say closer to two pints, depending on what kind of beer it is :D ....

Depending on the type of paint, 4 fl. oz. should be plenty, unless you have a translucent and need to build up lots of coats. Do note that the type of gun you are working with can change the paint use more, a wide fan will just put more paint on the booth floor.

Yes, that would be the case if using an HVLP type detail or doorjam gun. Also, what type of paint are you spraying? Is it basecoat? catalysed? single stage? or enamel?
Anywhoo... . .yes, a pint is usually enought o do a few frames/forks!
Unfortunetly, good clear usually only comes in quarts. Plus catalyst & reducer. Bout a hundred bucks.
So if you don't HAVE an HVLP gun, get one! More paint on the bike, a lot less on the floor.:)

Sorry about that. I'm using Dupont Centari single stage with a reducer. It's the only type I could find a color in, that wasn't tri coat, $$$$$$$! Yep, got a gravity feed HVLP, too. Sounds like I may be covered, no?,,,,BD

Si! all is good! I recommend turning the fan pattern down to a round dot. Adjust flow accordingly.
The trick is to spray quickly enough to get the whole paintjob on wet at the same time. That avoids dry, fuzzy spots. I've made other posts regarding a fixture and flipping the frame to get even coverage. Start with the tricky spots first, blasting quick little spritzes around the tight spots. Then come back and spray the tubes. Beware behind the seattube. I always have to double check there!;)
Good luck with that. Post pics! PM me anytime.
Cheers!

Cool! I haven't got the bike built up yet, but will begin working on it soon. The paint is staying indoors until the spraying happens. We do get hard freezes, but only every week or so for a night. Don't want this stuff freezing up. I've shot many bikes with spray bombs, and alot on cars, but never a full size gun on a bike frame. Thanks for the tips. On a side note, I may be getting a Brooks saddle soon. It will look amazing with the copper I believe.,,,,BD
Now I just have to gather up some more money for rims, and the custom build on the Nexus hub.:)

So you're painting it copper Centari. Are you going to clear it or no?
If no, then spray carefully. Spray so the whole frame is wet all at once. This allows the paint to flow out to a nice gloss. If you have dry dusty spots or runs when you're done, sanding and polishing will show in the metal flakes. Try using just a tad more reducer than the recipe calls for. Spray the tricky spots first, then the tubes. Watch behind the seat tube! Easy to miss that spot.
Be ready to spray at least 2 coats with flash time in between and even a 3rd coat for a rich, thick finish.
The thing I liked to do with the old Deltron single stage paint was to spray a coat of the copper, then add some clear to that and sopray a coat. When the cup got low, keep adding clear. Spray 5 or 6 coats that way and you've never seen copper like THIS! I did a Kestrel that I think I must have soray 12-13 coats for the silver. Then I fauxedf in some lugs and then a cuple 3 coats of clear to bury all that. It was TOO sparkly to look at in the direct sun!
Good luck with that! I (we) await pictures!;)

Probably not going to clear it unfortunately. Hopefully I can lay it down slick enough.I was trying for a one shot deal so to speak. I only hope the neighbors don't call the cops on me from the smell. Single stage usually is pretty strong smelling if I remember correctly. One good thing about this time of year, is the lack of bugs. You've never seen so many insects than here in the summer. Gnats, june bugs, mosquitos, flies, and more are just itching to get on your fresh paint. It's like they're waiting in line.;),,,,BD

Centari wetsands nicely, so even if it's not perfect after you're finished shooting (and chasing bugs away), you can always go back and wetsand smooth anything that doesn't look good to your eyes. 1500 and then 2000, then some polishing compound and she'll look very nice.
