I dunno, but I find that I don't like being called a "biker." It's a term that conjures images of leather jackets, heavy, loud Harleys, and taking over towns and run-ins with local police.
I much prefer to be referred to as a "cyclist."
Am I just a snob? (He knowingly asks, waiting for the flames to roar away...)

I agree with you on this, I much prefer "cyclist" but (as with all things) it's a matter of context. On RAGBRAI, for example, the towns will put up signs that read "Welcome Bikers" and it's not so bad.
Which is to say . . . they mean it in a good (or at least harmless) way, with no motorcycle-rider implications. So, in the big picture, it's really not worth losing any sleep over.

OK, I'm a snob. ;)
Cyclist. (I try not to wear my leather cycling shorts too often.)

I really don't care, I've been called far worse. But if someone asked my opinion, I'm with Dead Extra #2. Bikers have engines, cyclists power their bikes with their legs.
I call myself a cyclist when on the road and a biker doing MTB/trails. The only problem with the biker label is folks sometimes think you are a Hell's Angel (or something like that :p )
It's very easy to sort this out -- bikers ride 'cycles. Cyclists ride bikes.

Anything but a bi cyclist.

As long as it's pink leather, you OK.

i like my bike to be called a bike (not a bicycle), but i prefer to be called a cyclist (not a biker or a bicyclist).
kinda weird.
Don't call me late for dinner. Other than that, call me whatever you like.

I was searching for a picture of the guy in "Super Troopers" that went undercover to the "biker" bar dressed as a "cyclist". I couldn't find it. Maybe someone else can.
and . . . cycleons or cyclistas ! :)
I started a thread like this once before and was surprised how many people weren't opposed to being called "bikers." To me, it's definitely "cyclist." I don't think it's a snob thing as much as if you're talking to someone and you tell them you're a biker they're going to think you ride a Harley. Think about it - - do you go "biking" or "cycling?"

Riding! or, actually your " driving" the bike...!
i call myself bill...
Hey, my name's bill too!
cyclists wear spandex. Not that I have a particular aversion to spandex. I just don't wear it, I'm a communter. To me:
Cyclists = racers + weekend warriors
so, of the choices I prefer biker, but I don't really like that either. I prefer to be called "enlightened".
It's very easy to sort this out. Put on your bicycle riding clothes, jersey and shorts etc.
Then go into a "biker" bar and have a beer. Things will become clear.
