Introductions - Hello from Sunny Northern California

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hello All,

Found your sight while looking for information about my old Sekai 2700. Purchased it new about 1981. It has been in storage for the last 10 years and I just can't bring myself to get rid of it. Since they don't bring much(read as worth nothing used) on the secondary market.

Stopped riding about 1996 due to some old neck injuries flairing up and a move to a rural area with no biking paths. So now Del Webb has come to town and there is plenty of pavement available and I am considering the possibly putting some handlebars that allow me to sit up more on the bike to ease the neck strain. It's kind of exciting. I used to love to ride.

So far it looks scary good. Beautiful weather, should be raining and snowing some. Haven't seen it yet. It's an El Nino year.

Dan,

I also got into vintage bikes and found my way to bikeforums as a result of acquiring (read: rescuing from the dump) an old Sekai. It's a great bike, it's been fun restoring it, and it's true, the Japanese steel-frame bikes of the 70s and 80s seem to be undervalued in the used market. Around here people like them for fixie/ss conversions.

You may have found the website of my LBS, www.yellowjersey.org, which has some info about Sekai bikes.

I have family in NoCal and I'm sure the riding must be great there. More hilly than here, which must make the fixie/ss thing tougher.

Cheers,
Peter

Hello, Thanks for the invite. I'm much closer to Sacramento, in Placer County. I don't know how long it will be before I attempt any event rides. My 14 year old son saw all the biking literature I have been bringing home lately and hit me with the puzzled look "Dad I didn't know you were ever into biking". Of course that launched me into a long winded story about the good ol days(were they really that long ago.).

Thanks,

TD
