I wasn't on BF last year, so is it way too early to talk about htis? Is someone going to organize a BF group trip to see ToC when it comes around? I think I'm definitely going to take Friday off from work, go up to Solvang to watch the TT and then check out the next day's stage up through Balcom Canyon into Santa Clarita.

I watched it last year as they came up Balcom... Jam packed but it was awesome to see the power.

last year there was an organized bike forum ride from Van Nuys are to Thousand Oaks and back for the stage finish. This not sure.... where the stage nearest to most of forumers will be.

I was there last year too but at the KOM before Santa Paula. We took a look at the Balcom Canyon road but could not figure out where to park. Where did you end parking or did you just ride on your bike there?

The final stage in Long Beach would be fun to check out.

The ride last year was great fun. We picked the day that the tour traveled around Amgen. It was cool because we got to see the riders fly by at top speed three times!! I will do it again this year. Except I have no definite plan yet. 30-40 miles each leg will be great. Nosra

I think I'd like to do a ride to the finish at Santa Clarita, or maybe to one of the KOM spots.

balcolm was the best last year. we rode with the guys from sundance cycles and you could see them from the time they turned into the canyon till they went right past....amazing...

Last year I worked as a volunteer in TO, mostly doing stuff at the Expo. When the riders came in, I staked out a great spot for the 3 laps sitting on a right hand corner where the riders came towards me. Boy, they were flying! The follow cars could barely make the corners.

This year the finish in SC is much farther away so I'm skipping the volunteer work. Don't know if I am heading out to watch the event though. Maybe if there is a ride from the Valley to SC, I'll join in.

Well...me living in Santa Clarita...I'm about 7 miles away from the finish area. But I think I'd rather see the action on Balcom Canyon (never been there before) as I hear it's pretty impressive. Then I could take the chance of beating the race back to SC for the finish (if possible?)

Might be difficult, it all depends about how they control traffic on 126. Last year for instance while they were coming down the 1 to SLO CHP institued a rolling shut down of the road in both directions 1 hr prior to estimated arrival time of the racers. It is going to take the pros probably less than 1 hr to go from the top of Balcom, over to Grimes Canyon, down to Guiberson and on to the 126.

Don't forget this year we get a daily 1hr recap on VS (OLN) & the supposedly the weekends are suppose to have extended coverage.

I'm stuck in the finish area as a volunteer, Santa Clarita Velo along with the city is attempting to put together a National Women's Pro Race with $10,000 purse on the finishing portion of the route. I'm glad I have TIVO.
