Its like they take there skirts to the cleaners in the late fall and can't get them back till spring! Then they load there bodies down with all the latest colorful spandex and equipment and go out and act like (Lance A!)( mega miles&speed) BS! I must live in the wimpiest bike capital of the country!Well i bet that gets it started!!!!!:)

Yep, around here the number of cyclists you see drops big time once the weather turns cold. Oh well, their loss.
Is cycling a team sport? It ain't for me, i always ride alone, regardless of winter or summer. Winter cycling is really a mental deal. It's very easy to psych yourself out before you ever even start. The well kept secret, is that most days it is really quite easy.
I'm not gonna tell though, cuz I like to impress people.

I think maybe if you could sell motivation in a bottle, it would be on back order!!!
That's too bad about your biking buds. My friends are always down for a ride. The more challenging, the better. Just gotta dress for the occation.

sheba, yea i know..all they can think of doing in the winter is getting on there trainers, you know, the ones in front of the tv set! In the bacement or sun room,no fresh air or wind in the face feel!I can't go down that road!!!I guess if you can't get there in your head to begin with, there's no way you can get it out on the road!!

find some fun ways to motivate the gang. Challenge them to "ride the temperature". We used to make this our annual New Year's Day ride- if it was 12 degrees we'd ride 12 miles. If it was 40 degrees we'd get a decent ride in of 40 miles. (Doesn't really work for celsius and kilometers). Below zero we'd go to a bar and watch a football game.
worst thing to be is judgemental and mocking -they'll just dig their heels in and won't crawl out from under the rock until the crocuses are in bloom.
I don't do much club riding or racing anymore and mostly ride solo but I use the same tactics to get my own lazy butt out the door- I find ways to make it fun and a challenge.

If any of you get a chance and like movies, this one is supposed to start showing at the end of the month "The Flying Scotsman" i hear it is a very good movie about the one hour record! If you don't see it, don't worry, i'll tell you all about!!! hehheh!

I read a book by that name that was terrific.

Besides the large drop in numbers, i notice one other major difference between the fair weather commuter and the winter commuter.
In the winter, almost every one i see waves :)

Why is that?Is it because they feel they are staring at you because they think your crazy so they justify that by waving ?or are people friendler in the winter? joe
Staring at me because they think im crazy? Well im talking about other commuters, not cagers, so they would be likewise just as crazy. I guess its the secret crazy handshake, we hold up a hand and flap it wildley and grin :)
