Hi:

I'm looking for a setpost to replace the Titec that came with my bike (hardtail steel MTB). It's basically used for getting around town and smoother trail riding. I do not want a suspension post, don't care for the feel on the few I've been on. Just something to take a little on the edge off, so I was thinking a Carbon Fiber or titanium post. Now the question - does anyone make a extended length CF or Ti 26.8 Post? I have 180mm exposd on this post , so I imagine I need a least 350mm, better yet 400mm. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks

Greg :D :D :D

Does Titanium tubing provide the shock absorbing qualities that carbon exhibits? (trying to sound intelectual) :p

i've never had experience with titanium, but carbon fiber sure absorbs the shocks. my cf handlebars made a world of difference over the aluminums. i understand your hesitation regarding seatpost shocks, but i have heard a lot of good things about the thudbuster. also, specialized makes some decent seatpost shocks i have rode.
from what i've heard, titanium will help as well, although you pay steep for the luxuruy.

I had a run-in with a CF seatpost a year or so ago. I havn't trusted them since. I over-tightened the seat clamp. The result: the dumb thing broke in the middle of my ride. No warning, no bending, no cracking. Just a big *CRUNCH* and I was granted a lovely shaft of carbon fiber in my left butt cheek. Its a show I don't want to see again.

I've been happier with CF than with the Ti posts I've ridden. Check out Easton's line and be sure to follow torque specs and you'll be fine.
