Hello everyone! I'm 26 years old, 6' 6" tall and to be honest I have no idea what I weigh. I know I was a good 365# at my heaviest weight -- that said, I wanted to make a change. I have always been a big man, but never did I weigh so much before and not actually even want to look at myself -- food really became my comfort after those things in life we all go through. For some it's alcohol, gambling, etc., but for me it was food.
I bought a Specialized Hardrock Pro (Mountain Bike) back in August of this year and have been on it, and now my stationary pretty much every day since -- save for about 5 days. When I first started out it was miserable. I went on a public bike trail near my office at the end of the work day and maybe did 5 miles at first. Over time I worked it up to about 13 or so before the season got too wet and cold to continue. It's a hilly ride so I still got wore out.
Since then I have been doing daily 40 minute rides on my stationary. I certainly don't enjoy it as much as being outside, but I am sticking with it.
I have felt lots of progress. I even managed to get into a new belt that I couldn't even connect the 2 ends on by at least 4 inches when I started.
Even still it gets really frustrating. The one thing different for me this time is that when I have gotten frustrated I haven't quit. I'm not dieting this time. I decided that this is a life long commitment for me. My eating habits have changed drastically since I started, and it's almost been a natural process.
I have set some goals in all this, but they're longer term. I refuse to weigh myself until I have given myself at least one full year of this. I know some might call this a dangerous move, but it's worked for me for 4 full months. I would be satisfied with just being under 300# again, which I feel is an attainable goal.
With all that out there I do hope this can be a place for support and motivation. I also hope it will be a wealth of information for me. When I started I was just a fat guy trying to lose some weight. I'm still doing that now, but it's turning into a hobby that I am passionate about.
When I do lose all of this weight I plan to go to Alaska for a little additional soul searching. That's my chosen tangible reward to myself in all of this.
Thanks for listening! :)
