Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
yes we live in the midwest and yes it gets cold, but come on it is only december. it should not be ZERO degrees already..........should it? if it is above 20 degrees by 9am i will run outside tomorrow. otherwise, i will run in the unfinished damp and cold basement on a $300 dreadmill. motivation? i have my bike stored for the winter directly in front of the dreadmill. point? none. later.
22 and feels like 7.
i take back the thing about being outside at 9am :)

I'm going to head out in an hour or so. It should be above 30 with about a 12 mph SW wind. Sounds like a good day to ride to me. :)

My wife and I are heading out in a few minutes for 10 to 20 miles.
Chicago's far south suburbs have temps near 30F with winds SW at 15 ... makes for a wind chill of 20F. Not too bad.
Wish I could ride today. The temps. are cooperating but the roads are salty and slushy. Rollers again.

so is that too cold or did you ride? i wussed out and ran outside. it was 25 with a real feel of 20 around 9am. later.
I came up with my own personal commuter challenge for the winter. I want to ride in at least one day a week, hopefully significantly more. I rode in Friday on my old mtn bike because there was still ice on some of the roads. It was zero degrees when I left the house and I had 15 mph head wind for a good part of the ride. Surprisingly it wasn't too bad although my co-workers think I should be committed. Today was much nicer, back on the normal commuter and above freezing. If the roads aren't too wet or too iced over I'm going to give it my best shot.
Just get out there and enjoy the weather!

I also ran yesterday(Sunday). Was not too bad. All I thought about was the 1/2 marathon along the beach in Ft. Lauderdale that I am going to run Feb 18th.

I got out yesterday. The temps. were about 45 F when I started and 42 when I got done. Winds were about 10-15 mph. The roads had a few wet spots but it sure felt good to be back on the road.

....too icy for me....building wheels in basement. Pulling apart bikes, building a new one....that's what I am reduced to at this time of year.
That and eating way too much. It gives me something to work on in the spring....(read: "January")

nice. will this be your first half marathon? i have my eyes on a half marathon in spring and maybe something a little bigger in october! of course, all this running is just cross training to help me stay fit for the BFNIC racing team we are forming next year. good luck with the training. later.
