My name is Carey, 31 yo female from SLC, Utah.

I'm interested in the whole simplicity movement, including being car-free. I read Your Money or Your Life a few years ago, and have spent a lot of time considering what expenses bring me a corresponding amount of satisfaction. Cars do not bring me much satisfaction. I'm researching bicycle commuting now and am excited to learn that so many people do it and love it. Hope to join the ranks soon. Right now I'm borrowing a friend's bike and trying to decide what type to get for myself—hybrid or road.

I commute with a road bike, but haven't tried the hybrid type. The hybrid might be easier to fit fenders, but check whether it has eyelets on the frame for a rack. I like the drop bars of a road bike rather than the flat bars of a mountain bike, but it is fit of either that matters most.
